Thermalright Ultra-90 ok for Phenom X4 CPU?

Thread Starter
Will the Thermalright Ultra-90 properly fit the Phenom X4 CPU?

I know that Thermalright also makes a specific bracket for AMD AM2 CPU's, which is sold separately but if its compatible with AM2+ Phenom X4 remains unclear.

I dont want the Thermalright Ultra-120 because its way too large and the Thermalright Ultra-90 seems just right.

Someone please help me clear this up. Thanks.

Since AM2+ and AM2 use the same socket type, it should work.

I don't see how the TRUE is too large but the Ultra-90 should work.

it should fit, but unless the 120 doesn't fit in your case i would suggest getting the 120

I've read that the performance difference between the 90 and 120 was minimal.

I also read that you can attach a 120mm fan on the 90 as well and have almost identical performance....all the while saving a good amount of space.

This will be in the ABS Diablo Full Tower case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811215006),

so not having enough space is not an issue. I just dont want huge, over-sized components in my system, not to mention the 120 is more expensive and weights a whopping 5 lbs.

Also, I can get the Thermalright Ultra-90 for about $30.

I just wanted to verify that it will fit a Phenom X4 CPU (125 Watts needs good cooling).

Any reason you can't use the TRUE? And there is a pretty good cooling difference between the two.

lol people also said the ultra 120 = ultra 120 extreme... if that were true, thatd mean the extreme 120 = ultra 120 = ultra 90... which is not true.

unless you have a tiny case i don't see how the TRUE can be too big
and like they say size matters

Nobody said it equaled.

They said that even though there is a difference, its minimal.

Also, the TRUE 120 (new model) is overpriced imo and weights 5lbs. I can get the Thermalright Ultra-90 for about $30, its smaller and it weights almost half as much.

So does everyone concur that the Thermalright Ultra-90 should be fine with the AM2+ Phenom X4?

You should go ahead and pickup the Ultima 90 instead. It has the same design as the TRUE, except its' an inch shorter.

Ultima90 should work out of the box for AM2 socket. The back plate will work with socket 775 and AM2.
