Have fun fighting over it with the kids, even my Wife loves this system. My Son has bought us one as a family gift for XMas because she always bugged him to bring it over when he visited.
Wii Play (comes with a Wii Remote)
2 more Wii Remotes if you plan to have that many people playing at any one time (4 total)
1 more nunchuck (2 total - most 4 player games only use the Wii Remote)
Mario Kart Wii with at least 1 extra Wii wheel (the wheels aren't a requirement but just kinda fun)
Super Mario Galaxy
Any of the Lego games (Star Wars/Indiana Jones/Batman)
I picked up Super Smash Bros. Brawl awhile back after everyone raving about it. I finally got a chance to play it yesterday and I completely didn't understand it. It turned into me pushing buttons to randomly punch, kick, and shoot rockets and lasers (I was playing as Samus from Metroid). I think I must be over the age limit on that game cause I totally didn't get it (and I'm only 31!).
If your kids are ADHD or something, they'll probably love it...
Guitar Hero: World Tour is also pretty fun to play as a group. I hear Rockband 2 is about the same - just pick whichever one has more songs that you like.
If you like golf, Tiger Woods All Play is pretty fun. It's nice because you can set the difficulty to either super easy, super hard/realistic, or anywhere in between.
And for you, pick up No More Heroes - definitely not one for the kids, but pretty fun!
Get world tour. Rock band 2 sucks for songs. Unless you like emo "rock"
Mario Kart
Twilight Princess
Smash Bros
STAY AWAY FROM PAPER MARIO. The girlfriend kept bugging me to rent it and we did and the first 20 minutes was reading text on the screen and the game was boring as H*LL
Mari Kart (Screw the wheel, that's for scrubs, get classic gamecube controllers)
Super Smash Bros Brawl (Classic gamecube controllers once again)
Super Mario Galaxy
I would just get Mario Kart for now. The wheel is epic and the game play is very addicting. Also, hook it up to the internet if you can. It adds another dimension. Between Wii Sports, Online, and Mario Kart, you won't need another game for a while. Let them get bored of those before you move on. My wife also like Wii Play but I found it a bit unpolished compared to Wii sports, so that's your call.
Make sure you get an extra controller so you have at least two. The batteries last a long time so I wouldn't worry about rechargeable battery packs right now. We have had our playing for over a month every day and our remote still show full battery power. If you have multiple systems and only one or two inputs on your TV, make sure you get a switcher. We have one that had four inputs since our TV only has one, so we can switch between the PS2, Wii, and anything else we want to connect.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wii Play
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Animal Crossing: City Folk
Mario Kart Wii
Rock Band or Rock Band 2 (I own both on Xbox 360, I dunno how they are on Wii)

wth are you talking about. There are 84 songs on the disc, and only about 3 of them could possibly be considered "emo "rock"". And go ahead, try to back up your statement, I'd love to meet the person that thinks The Allman Brothers, Judas Priest, Journey, Norman Greenbaum, etc. etc. are emo
yeah, i'm glad i kept my Wavebirds for SSBB, but other than that, as listed above
Super mario galaxy
Zelda TP
Metroid prime 3
(I hear RB2 is better than GH:WT)
i would recommend a classic controller if you plan on downloading virtual console games other than NES titles.
have fun
