Water Cooling HELP!

Thread Starter
OK so im about to order a water cooling setup. Specifically this one http://www.petrastechshop.com/pecod4.html. I would be getting the apogee gtz core i7 kit but had some questions.

1. My motherbaord's northbridge is ready to be water cooled but I have heard that you don't want to mix metals so if i did that water block and this northbridge would there be a problem?

2. Will this kit provide better temps then my TRUE my temps at 3.5ghz are idle around 37C and load at 60C.

3. will I have everything I need to do both the cpu and the northbridge or will I need something else.

4. My case is the antec 1200 how would I mount the radiator to the back of the case?

5. my northbridge what size barbs (I think that's what there called?) are they 1/2, 7/16.

6. How does the tubing work like the size if the inner diameter is 7/16 then I need a outer diameter barb of 1/2?

7. How often will I need to change the coolant? I will be using the pt_nuke that comes with the kit is it good? will I need to add distilled water? is there anything so much better its worth getting instead?

8. Reservoirs will I need one or a T-line fillport cap work?

9. the fillport is nickel plated brass will that be a problem???

any other info I need to know and please hurry I want to buy before it sells out

ps +rep to all who help.

Do you know what kind of metal your NB is made of? if its aluminum, then it'll be a no no.

2. Will this kit provide better temps then my TRUE my temps at 3.5ghz are idle around 37C and load at 60C.
It should. another question is also what are your ambients?

3. will I have everything I need to do both the cpu and the northbridge or will I need something else.
IF you get that kit, you should be able to do both CPU and NB.

4. My case is the antec 1200 how would I mount the radiator to the back of the case?
You could mount it in the back or you can mount it in the front i think or even on top. for that you would need a radbox. not too sure if that kit comes with one.

5. my northbridge what size barbs (I think that's what there called?) are they 1/2, 7/16.
hopefully, your barb size is 1/2". and for tubing, 7/16".

6. How does the tubing work like the size if the inner diameter is 7/16 then I need a outer diameter barb of 1/2?
that is correct. you want your tubing ID to be slightly smaller than your barb size.

7. How often will I need to change the coolant? I will be using the pt_nuke that comes with the kit is it good? will I need to add distilled water? is there anything so much better its worth getting instead?
yes pt-nuke is very good. i've heard of people leaving their coolant in their loops for a year or so. it'll be good to check your water levels every now and then though.

8. Reservoirs will I need one or a T-line fillport cap work?
a t-line will work just fine.

9. the fillport is nickel plated brass will that be a problem???
there will be no problem with brass or nickel in your loop.
any other info I need to know and please hurry I want to buy before it sells out

ps +rep to all who help.
i hope this helps.

1. My motherbaord's northbridge is ready to be water cooled but I have heard that you don't want to mix metals so if i did that water block and this northbridge would there be a problem? It is made of copper... So no corrosion

2. Will this kit provide better temps then my TRUE my temps at 3.5ghz are idle around 37C and load at 60C. My i7 is currently idleing at 30-32'c and loads at 50 on a TFC 240.

3. will I have everything I need to do both the cpu and the northbridge or will I need something else. Not sure may need a few fitting adaptors.

4. My case is the antec 1200 how would I mount the radiator to the back of the case? Probably best using a radbox (included)

5. my northbridge what size barbs (I think that's what there called?) are they 1/2, 7/16. It is 3/8

6. How does the tubing work like the size if the inner diameter is 7/16 then I need a outer diameter barb of 1/2? You make sure the ID of the tube matches the barb. For example 1/2" ID tube to 1/2" barb.

7. How often will I need to change the coolant? I will be using the pt_nuke that comes with the kit is it good? will I need to add distilled water? is there anything so much better its worth getting instead? You don't have to change the coolant often, once maybe twice every year?... And distilled water with PT-nuke is the best you can get.

8. Reservoirs will I need one or a T-line fillport cap work? T-line works fine.

9. the fillport is nickel plated brass will that be a problem??? Nope.

any other info I need to know and please hurry I want to buy before it sells out

Check my build log for some i7 watercooling information (link in sig)

get a converter from 1/2" tube to 3/8", it will be restrictive though, if you can I would recommend running two loops.

You will have to buy 3/8 tubing and a converter piece from 1/2" to 3/8" and make sure you use hose clamps.

You cannot change the motherboard barbs, they are pre-casted into the block.

If you see my build log the silver cutoff valve is what I used to swap from 1/2" to 3/8" and then a barb on the radiator but in mine its on a seperate loop, with yours it would be restrictive but I dunno how bad it would affect your flow?

one last thing do you test the whole setup before you put it in the computer like on a table and how would you power it since it uses molex? or do you just put it in and hope for the best lol doubt that.

thanks been great help im going to order this tonight been wanting to water cool for some time and no time like the present im going to try to take this core i7 to 4ghz on water. I already +repped you all
