Don't just go for megapixels, that's only beneficial if your blowing images up to say A2, A1 etc for huge prints.

You need a good zoom say between 5x - 8x (or more) from a good camera manufaturer...Panasonic, Olympus, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax etc. For zoom It HAS to be optical zoom. Digital zoom is just an enhanced zoom built into the camera which is no use really for image reproduction.

To compare cameras try this site... I always use this place whilst considering any of my digital equipment.....

http://www.imaging-resource.com/

And the comparometer lets you compare images from different cameras. Just select 'ALL' at the top so that you can see all the different models.

he's right about blowing it up, which i'm sure is what your parents (if anything like mine...) will do!
and i'd say a good zoom is NO LESS than 12x and that's just in your price range anyway

Guys, megapixels don't matter unless you need to blow up images. If you base that on what is a good and bad camera it might be better if you don't post in this thread.

Anyways check out this camera: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16830120285

that's what we were sayin bout megapixels, they aren't great unless you blow them up
i think he's only worried about how much it will zoom and if you have a camera that has above a 12x zoom, the quality is prolly gonna be pretty good, tho, you may wanna check that out to make sure your not gettin jipped

Would this camera shoot right away? Like take the picture as soon as you click? Because my parents get annoyed when our camera right now does not do this.

I can't see any reviews regarding your question on that camera so I wouldn't like to say yes or no. Shutter lag is a pain with digital cameras and has nothing to do with the cameras actual shutter speed. Shutter lag is the time it takes for the camera to take the picture after the button is pressed.

The camera I pointed you towards earlier in the thread is a compact camera yet has many of the specifications of a digital SLR apart from the size and weight.
