Could it be a bad PSU

Thread Starter
I've had it for about one six months and never really used it to overclock. Its a Power up 800 watt..I've OC my q6600 to 3.1 using 1.47vcore and well the rest of my hardware in the signature. The OC its one hour plus stable in everest and i've been running if for a few days with no problems even with my OC'ed 260 gtx but now when i restart it it boots fine, if i turn it off (shutdown) and turn back on after a min or so it wont even post? I have to press the reset botton, and sometimes switch the PSU off in the back then back on and then it posts and boots. I set the clock speeds to default and it seems to work ok.. im not sure because i turned the clock back down to 3.0 and then it posted after a shutdown, the second time i tried and it didn't even post on 3000mhz fsb. I tried one shutdown and power back up on stock clock speeds but more than once since i had to go out. Thanks for any thoughts or advice you could share.

that's a dangerous PSU. it's unknown brand. return it and get a BFG 800w or a corsair 750tx. really, in all honesty, all you need is a 520HX, or a 610 PCP&C to power up that rig. when it comes to PSU's quality>Watts.

Well i wanted something modular, i really like the design and it helps clear up the mess. I was looking at Ultra X3 I really need the 4 six pin connectors for the sli 260 gtx and at least one 8 pin just in case i ever get a more powerfull GPU. So basically you say get a better PSU, what brands?? Corsair, TT? Thanks

if you want modular go for BFG or 620HX
bfg is actually cheaper and from what i'm hearing, it's great.
bfg has 4 pin connectors by the way.

I favor Silverstone Modular powersupplies. I've used BFG Corsair, TT,PCP&C, Antec and the Silverstone PSUs are usually heavier per watt ...Heavy is good.

The problem with the PSU is its made of cheap parts and it can give unstable and sometimes dirty D.C. current. You cannot build a PC with that type of PSU.

Try this

i need something with at least 4x 6 pin pci connectors and 2x 8 pin pci connectors as well just in case i want to get better GPU's in the near future. I would also like it to be modular, now if it being modular hinders the performance i could deal without it

I mentioned the Ultra X3 above because it has the 4x 6pin GPU connectors as well as 2x 8pin gpu connectors.. kinda future prove as far as GPU's go

Modular does not hinter performance.

I recommend the Enermax Liberty 620, that's what I use and I keep wanting to try SLI even though I can't afford it... but one day... one day...

if you want modular go for the 700w silverstone

otherwise, grab the BFG ES series 800w
