Fail's memtest in pairs, but not by itself?

Ok I have 2x 4GB Corsair Dominator 1066MHZ kits ( 4x2GB total ram) on my asus crosshair everything was great till the other day when I started to get ram related BSOD'S. I immeditaly decided to run memtest, and at 36% in it failed.

I then tested each kit by themselves, one kit passed, the other failed. I then took that kit that failed and test each stick, and each stick passed.

Needless to say I am now confused. What would cause the ram to fail memtest when in pairs, but not when it is by itself, or is it the ram is just bad, but if that is the case why doesn't it fail when it is by itself?

Everything is at stock and set to auto in the bios, and the SLI setting is on Optimal and the ram is running at 1066MHZ 5-5-5-15

Give a .1v bump to NB, that might sort out your problems.

I will try that, but would it pass one kit at stock NB voltage and not the other?

Luck? Just give it a go, and at the same time maybe make a bit of a bump to your ram voltage, one kit might need a little bit more juice...

I had the exact same problem not too long ago:
http://www.overclock.net/amd-memory/...ontroller.html

As you can see, I'm only able to run 2x1GB atm because of it. I've yet to try out a pair of 2x2GB though. I'm pretty sure my mobo is the culprit.

Yeah I tested with a slight bump on the NB and in the Ram voltages with no luck. It might be the MB, but if it was it wouldn't run either kit, or would pass them both, but would fail if they both were put in.

looser timings help any?

Also is the cpu at stock speed? I'm not an expert on phenoms but on older x2's sometimes the memory controller would get unstable in overclocking - especially when you have more than 2 sticks of ram. It stressed the old memory controller out, and made it harder to run stable.

Are they rated 1t or 2t? try 2t. so i would try looser timings if that doesnt help, or a bump on most of the volt options, etc. Maybe try default everything, and ram at rated timings/volts

I it is not the slot as the same slot was used to test the other kit. In other words Kit 1 passes in 1 and 3 but kit 2 fails in and 1 and 3 and if I test with all 4 dimms in it fails as well.

how old is the memory? just pullin ideas out of a hat, but try taking your ram out, getting a pencil eraser, and rubbing it on the leads of the memory, see if that helps. who knows, you may end up having crap on the leads??
