What would you build with a $1400 budget?

Thread Starter
As the title says, around a $1400 budget, if over, less than $1500 for sure. If its less, then thats not a problem either .

Incorporate the following: Antec 900 or 1200, a Gigabyte UD3P for the motherboard. Dual or Quad core, but im leaning towards a Quad, a copy of Vista in the budget as well. And a ATI 4870 1GB.

If you would go with core i7, then throw it in the mix as well, with the case, and vid card stated above.

Need a whole build posted, so have at it

i7's too expensive at the moment. if you can hold on your cash for a little bit, then wait till the phenom II comes out, that way if it's better than the i7 buy it, if it's equal, both the prices will lower.

Well I've put together two systems for you to consider. I'm assuming you want just a tower and you won't need any peripherals. My first offering is what I would go with.

Case:Antec 1200
CPU: Core i7 920
Mobo:Gigabyte's Midrange X58
RAM:Corsair Dominator (3x1GB)
GPU:HIS 4870 1GB
HDD:640GB WD Caviar Black
Optical Drive: LG black combo drive
PSU:Corsair 750W
OS:Vista Home Premium 64-bit

The total on that build as of this second is $1470.92 on newegg before shipping. It also includes $30 worth of mail in rebates. The only thing not included in this build is a HSF.

My second build suggestion is based on your motherboard choice in your original post.

Case:Antec 1200
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9550
Mobo:Gigabyte's UD3P
RAM:Patriot Viper(2x2GB)
GPU:HIS 4870 1GB
HDD:640GB WD Caviar Black
Optical Drive: LG black combo drive
PSU:Corsair 750W
OS:Vista Home Premium 64-bit

Total on this build on newegg right now is $1234.91 before shipping and before $75 worth of mail-in rebates. That gives you plenty of cash leftover to add a HSF.

That gives you an idea of what you can do with your budget I think. Good luck playing with it. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you chose. A new rig is gauranteed fun.

Video Card: Radeon HD 4870 - $239.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102801)

For your video card, if you get a 4870 get this one. It's I believe the best one on the market right now. It stays cooler then anything else, especially that HIS HD 4870 linked to earlier with no performance lost. It's just simply the best. I have one too, and would suggest this one over anything else!
