Help me get my Q9550 4Ghz+ - Page 2

Thread Starter
Just tried to boot at 450x8.5 with new settings, based off of a couple of guides for the Maximus Formula, and it failed. So at this point I guess my maximum for this board is 440x8.5 ... I guess I will have to live with a slow 3.74Ghz Q9550 for now =/

Time to get a new board, maybe someone will want to trade.

Dont throw away that WC setup now. You need it for your new EP45 UD3P.

Oh no, I definitely wont throw it away, 17c temps @ 3.74Ghz under orthos for 30 minutes with an ambient of 14c sure is nice.

So the EP45 UD3P is one of the best affordable DDR2 boards for overclocking the 45nm Quads?

Yup.

Had 500x8.5 running for 30 minutes before it crashed. Probably just needs a bit more tweaking to get stable.

Tonight I want to see if I can get it under 4c. It is going to be 28F (-2c) tonight so I am planning on letting my computer room freeze for the sake of very cold temps and the thrill of seeing what it can do. (I am going to pull out my old snowboarding gear so I don't freeze in my own house).

Awesome, thanks for the links! I will check them out.

I got almost the same problem. I got this new processor Q9550 (c1) stepping with my Maximus Formula x38.

Can't even boot up with 3.7ghz. I'm not new in overclocking but this is a bit strange to me. sometimes my RAM doesn't post even on its stock frequency with exact voltage, my LCD poster is pausing at "DET DRAM". when I overclock the RAM, let say from 1066mhz to 1133mhz. it will boot up, but not in Windows.

I got feeling that this is some kind of FSB wall for paring this X38 to a 45nm processors. My friend managed to OC his Q9550 (E0) stepping to 4.4ghz stable with Prime95 torture test and 3Dmark benchmarks. but he's using P45 chipset and not to mention the brand/model because it is not ASUS.

here are some of my overclocking screenies and links with my previous Q6600.

Q6600 @ 3.9ghz (Windows XP)

CPU-Z Validation

Q6600 @ 3.8ghz (Windows Vista Ultimate)

CPU Validation

also, my friend let me test his QX9650 on my Maximus Formula and here's the result

QX9650 @ 4.4ghz (Windows Vista Ultimate)

CPU-Z Validation

I can run benchmark with 4.3ghz as well.

anyway, back to my problem, is there any way to push the clocks of this Q9550?

Thanks!

yesterday i had the c1 q9550 and i called intel and told them it was giving me problems (the call took place on friday) and they sent me a new one for 25 dollars today (monday). I just put it in this morning and it turns out they gave me an e0. I hit 4.0ghz stable my first try with the vcore i was giving my c1 for 3.5 ghz.
I paid 25 dollars for shipping, but damn it was worth it. Maybe you should just try to replace the chip with an e0? They will send it to you next day for 25 dollars and that includes the return shipping to them, or you can send them your processor and wait a week.
