So what exactly is in those Cisco devices that makes them cost $2800? Is it the software/firmware that comes on them?

hehe, I asked myself that question the other day...

I'm quessing it's not a horrible thing to make.. An older 1+Ghz pc with enough 10/100 cards and said software would be enough..

I'm looken to build one next month with this 430 sitten here.. Hopefully after that I won't have to restart my router every 24hrs...

1. Have a spare or new PC with the minimum requirements.
Source for minimum requirements.

2. Download and burn ISO image with IMG Burn or some software.
Download Page.

3. Insert CD/DVD and follow on screen instructions.
Dedicated server quick start guide.

4. Add modules you want.

5. Enjoy how easy it was!!

Optional 6. Run a wireless router while turning off DHCP so it acts as a switch. Be sure not plug a cord into the cable modem slot on the router.

I believe you have to run a switch after the Untangle PC. I couldn't imagine running a Untangle PC with 1 other PC on the network anyways.

I've always wondered what would happen if I used my old s939 as a router. Maybe I should give it a go. I'm sure that plus a nice monstrous antenna would sort me out. Thanks for giving me the idea, I'm now going to try it. I'll post some results later.

Darn, just realized I only have an extra phone line card, not NIC.

I know this question has been asked at least 10 times now, but how would I set it up? I Right now, I have my phone line plugging into my modem, which also acts as a router. It only has one ethernet port, and than runs to my main PC. Everything else in my house runs on wireless.

Phoneline -> Modem/Router -> Main PC
Everything else wireless.

Then the secondary nic (lan dhcp) would have to be a wireless card, in your main box.

And all my wireless devices would just use the router as an access point?

Well untangle is suppose to be your router so it would be modem-untangle pc (router)-other pc's
