So what exactly is in those Cisco devices that makes them cost $2800? Is it the software/firmware that comes on them?
not to say you can't make a reliable router, its just when a business needs a router, they want a solid product. not something someone puts together from parts. a whitebox router won't have any documentation, and will surely come with undocumented "features" that you're going to have to figure out on your own that no one else wants to deal with. if something goes wrong, say the model number to your Cisco rep and you will be connected with someone who knows exactly where the parts came from and what they can do. remember, when you're talking about Cisco, you're talking business to business grade products. not home-user game playing and web surfing. and yes, their firmware/software has been tested by millions of people in just as many circumstances.
