[Fud]AMD Athlon X2 7750 does fine

After long denying any Phenom-based Athlons, then releasing the 6500 silently, now AMD introduces new models of the 7000 series. The naming is adding to some confusion for the customers, because there is no distinction between Phenom based CPUs, codename "Kuma" and the old "Brisbane" core of the original Athlon, now available as 4450e, 4850e, and 5050e. Why they did not choose to use "Athlon II" as they did with the new Phenoms is beyond our understanding.

The CPU is in fact a Phenom with only two cores. No surprises here, 2x 64kB instruction and data 1st level cache, 2x 512kB 2nd level cache and addtional 2MB shared 3rd level cache. The disappointing news is that it has a TDP of 95W. While AMD is positioning this CPU against the E5200, with a TDP of 65W. The TDP difference is quite substantial even when AMD comes close in performance.

I thought that the TDP between AMD and Intel shouldnt be compared the way they did because of the fact that AMD cpus have the memory controller inside of the cpu or something along the lines of that. (excluding the i7 line)

:rolls eyes:

My friends, lets not forget the Athlon 6000+ at 3.1 Ghz for LESS MONEY.
Linky

It's a 65nm chip. Low energy. They should both OC to the same levels. Wouldn't you rather work hard for a 100 Mhz OC (you wont hit over 3.2) than a 500 Mhz overclock?

This thing OCs easier for less money.

Might be interesting for new amd adopters, but I'm not so sure this will sell well. Time will prove me right or wrong, but I just don't see the incentive to pick this up over some of the other available chips such as the one posted by WhiteCrane, or step-up to the new denebs.

I'm sure he realizes that overclocking is possible, but 2.6 can be disappointing for him when he has to clock 23% just to reach the same clocks as his current CPU stock. 23% on AMD is just about pushing it.

The 7750 at stock will own an old X2 6000+ at 3.0GHz, so the clock speed is no longer directly comparable.

http://xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/dis...0_6.html#sect0

The max overclock they achieved at xbit is disappointing though.
