I know eventually I need a new psu anyway, had this 1 for nearly 3 years, bought it when I built my 1st system lol
Even if I can oc to say 2.6ghz, I know its not a problem with the mb or cpu, but even if I try to up anything and save settings, the system will not boot at all unless I reset the cmos switch
Well, you could try 2.6ghz at less voltage (say 1.35v)

Can you list out all of your MCH & DDR2 related timings as well as the Model# of the DDR2 as well?

If you're RAM isn't on the QVL for the motherboard than you can't expect the SPD to be read correctly and some of those AUTO settings on the timings might be a little off..

(and updating your sig-rig with some of these details helps too, heh.)

From cpuz, here is a list of my info from each tab:

The 2 1gb sticks of ram are exactly the same

This is default stock settings in bios, most of the options are already on auto

Oh you got 333mhz ram that probly is holding you back alot, a q6600 has a 1066 bus 266x4 so you probly need to find a 1:1 in bios to set ram to lowest value you can befor you try to overclock. But you should be able to get to 3ghz befor your ram maxes out sence 333x9 is 2997. Also if you noticed your ram is not running in dual channel might wanna double check you have them in the right slots.

Thats it! just realised I has the ram in slots 1+2, and they needed to be in 1+3 to be dual channel, just tried overclocking again with the settings I was given and now its running at this!:

Thanks a lot Bal3Wolf, I cant believe it was something as simple as that in the end, I tried absolutely everything else as well!

EDIT: Just tried some stressing on the system, and temps are maxing out at around 53, very pleased!

Glad you got it sorted. You may be able to get away with less vcore, or you could try to push for a higher overclock.
