Now don't jump down my throat if I get this wrong but this is what I remember. PSU wattage ratings are calculated through adding up the combined amperage of the given unit along with some additional step that I can't remember. When it comes to power supplies, the thing you should be looking for is +12v amperage, not overall wattage rating. This is because some PSU manufacturers inflate the amperage of a smaller voltage rail because it's cheaper and it increases the overall wattage rating, making the product appear more impressive to the consumer, but not providing the increased +12v amperage necessary for today's video cards. Better PSU makers like Antec, Corsair, and PCP&C don't use these tactics and increases in wattage ratings with their units typically coincides with an increase in overall +12v amperage.

I don't not get it but it doesn't make sense to sell it as 630W when it's "techincally" 430...also this raidmax is just fine i've had it for about a good while now and infact all of the problems with my comp went away when I ditched my Biostar mobo and AMD cpu and got my Gigabyte and Wolfdale

It's shady marketing. It's what companies that make crappy PSUs do

And trust me, I used one of those for a while, only because I found it at a very cheap price. It lasted a little over a year, then one night, my computer randomly turned on at 3:30 in the morning and the thing went up in puff of smoke. Luckily it didn't take down anything with it, but I learned my lesson from it, do not skimp out on your power supply If you google around a bit you'll find similar stories as well, though some people were not as lucky as me and had other parts get fried as well.

Using the peak power instead of continuous and testing at an unrealistically low operating temperature (say 25C, instead of 40-50C) are far bigger contributors to exaggerated wattage ratings than poor distribution of the rails (which is likely not intentional, just a side effect of older, cheaper, designs).

What doesn't make sense about a business ripping people off if they can get away with it?

As for your PSU, of course it seems fine, your system is unlikely draw more than 250w peak. Even if Raidmax horribly overrated your PSU, it still probably delivers more power than you need.

Why would you ask if you're going to answer your own question?????

Do you guys think my psu will handle this beast, or 2 4850's Xfired? And also, what's better this X2 or the Xfired ones? Also keep in mind that I have 6 fans in my computer running off the power supply, thanks

I think the 4850x2 is faster that the 4870x2 used to be. Driver improvements are really kicking ass for ATi.

The fact this beats a GTX280 in Crysis is pretty sweet.

What is the difference in power draw for a 4850x2 vs a GTX280 though?

CF 4850 pull 220w and i think GTX280 pulls 238w.
