New build only getting 6kppd =O

I think I narrowed part of the problem down to unstable overclocks (doesn't surprise me, I neglected to p95 for 12+ hours..only went 3 or 4)

I completely reinstalled the windows 6.22 smp CPU client and am using the alternative executable provided here.

My original overclocks were: CPU 400FSB = 3.6ghz on about 1.49vcore (is that right????)

GPU - 830/1990/1210

TAGS:
CPU = -smp -deino -advmethods -forceasm -verbosity 9
GPU = -advmethods -forceasm

The problems that I was having was the system would just freeze. Period.

When things were running, the setup was only netting 6k ppd.

Thats bs my dual core and g80 GPU was netting atleast 7, sometimes 7.5k.

So I dropped the quad back to 2.4ghz and disabled the GPU client to begin narrowing down the problem.

The stock clocked quad has been folding away for ~13 minutes now with no freezes...and taking more than that period of time to do 1% on a 250k step....

I am now enabling the GPU client on stock GPU clocks (GPU should be stable, but an 11% overclock seems heinous for a wc'ed card..I need to hit the nvidia forums to find out *** is going on with that) with the aforementioned tags.

Both clients still have the same tags. GPU client is the systray client, and no I do not bring it up to look at the genome.

EDIT: CPU 18mins/% it seems

Have you considered running a Linux VMware SMP setup? It generally gets a lot more PPD than the Windows SMP client, and doesn't slow down the GPU much.

I have considered it, but regardless, I was getting better PPD on these same clients with worse hardware. That is my problem.

First off, get your cpu oc stable before you start the gpu client.
There are new gpu wu's that are worth a 3rd less ppd that have been introduced within the last couple of weeks.
What units have you been getting for the gpu client?

Right now it is working on gromacs 5755, this is what fahmon tells me. Both clients are running with both hardwares at stock speeds. 15+ minutes in with both clients running, problem free.

I find it entertaining that a client running -advmethod -forceasm -verbosity 9 will put the system through more stress than P95 will, as P95 has been my standard for stress testing since day one....though I was a bit lackadaisical this time around in terms of length of testing.

A neat note though, I had my cpu block's innards mounted incorrectly previously on my e8500. So according to this pic

I re-seated for the quad, and man even at 3.7 on p95 it never went over 57°C on just an mcr220 and mcr320, complete with an OCed GPU and NB in the loop. /end

grunion is right about the new WUs..

511 pointers will drop you around 2k
384 will drop you around 500-1000.

this is what i've seen on my folding rigs..

overall, nvidia gpus have dropped in PPD. not much you can do about it. just fold away.

you're total PPD will fluctuate is all. no worries.
