Why people don't love S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Page 8

Bioshock was good, but only barely memorable.

I really wish System Shock 3, is going to live up to the greatness of SS2.

Clear Sky on the other hand, was ok, but I found it more of a chore to keep playing than any kind of fun.

ROFL at all the people saying they MAXXED it out at high res with 8800GT spec graphics card.

YOU CANT RUN IT MAXXED OUT @ HIGH RES WITH THOSE LEVEL CARDS.

Maxxed out is enhanced dynamic lighting DX10 mode...

Ok....im done ranting

I haven't played Clear Sky yet, but I'm currently on my 3rd run through the original (trying the Oblivion Lost mod this time).

I really enjoyed the game, for many of the same reasons that some dislike it. I did not find the story hard to follow and appreciated the relative openess of it. Multiple ways of doing things appeal to me.

I think I'm the only person who said I could max it out.

I like both but here are my problems with it

CS isn't scary enough

Very, very strange performance, anyone remember how poorly the swamps in CS run compared to the rest? Also, CS does a ~5 second stutter every now and again while running across open ground, why?? Also, the memory leak pissed me right off when I had 2 gb ram (both SOC and CS have the problem).

Doesn't like OC, not sure why. CS ran more or less fine, till I started experimenting with a CPU OC, decides to take a crap every hour or so with the OC on.

CS isn't scary enough

CS is overpopulated

CS likes to give me weird artifacty things whenever it rains.

CS isn't scary enough

GSC needs to stop treating paying customers like beta testers... seriously

Story sucks.. both are alright, till the ending, where they both take a dive off the deep end.

And on another note, I think why people say CS has crap graphics is because the graphics are realistic. Sorry, just cuz a tropical island lights up like a christmas tree (Crysis) doesn't mean a nuclear wasteland will do the same. It's gonna look gritty and brown.

ROFL, great point.

As for the rest of your post, I'm sorry to hear that. I was planning on getting this game.... maybe I shouldn't? I was hoping for the same creepy atmosphere as SoC

Eh.. it's good in other ways. Much better graphics (I'm pretty sure the GTX's do pretty well on it too). A lot more action too. Basically you lose the scare factor because the world is overpopulated, but you gain action and gunfights because of it.

If someone ports Oblivion Lost into X-ray 1.5 that would be the absolute pinnacle of perfection IMO.

I played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but it just never clicked for me. After a bit I felt like I was "working" on the game and just gave up on radiation-based storylines until Fallout3.

I just reinstalled Stalker SoC on my rig. Overall I really like the game...the whole gritty atmosphere/living world environment is what really hooked me. I want to get Clear Sky once I get my new system built.
