At last!!! Now I need to choose one...

Hey all

Let me introduce myself.
I'm a 16year old living in belgium. For a while now I have been working saturdays (or wasting ) in a local butcher. it's pretty tough work and doesn't make alot of money (250euros for 5 daturdays, plus meal). But I like my job, nice people and we have a good time AND it learns me how to actually work for a living .

But this said. I have made around 600 euros by now. And for a while I was planning to buy a simple laptop. First I was doubting if I should by a netbook or a laptop but afte a couple of weeks I thought I shoudl go for a laptop as I realised that netbooks are a bit of alot of money for what they are (ofcourse my opinion).

Knowing me I would start of looking for a simple laptop and ending up with a 1000euro model with bluray and such.

So I ahve 2 models in mind, not really sure of which i think that they are well worth the 600 dollars (yes, am looking for a laptop around 600-700).

After a very long search (and trying not to tend to buy an expensive one, just one for movies, music, maybe css, word.....

i have found these 2 models. The first on is a hp pavilion, found one for 505euros including shipping from amazon :

I found it surprisingly cheap, having nice specs (and the optional 12cell lasts 6hours, mroe than enough for me). What do you guys think? Does it have nice specs? Or is there a catch.

At the moment this is my only option, but I found another one today:
It are not the same specs tough: the one I found has a 160gb HDD, 2GB ram, the same Video card with HDMI and 256mb though i might just as well take this one

What do you guys think, I might really use a second opinion as I am a very impulsive buyer and don't want to blow away 8 wasted saturdays to something not worth it

Also, plz share if you know alot better buy, i would really appreciate it. as long as it stays in the same price range lol

Thanks alot very much for helping me out.
Really.
Am glad to be aboard of this forum

They both seem to be good laptops for their prices, so it just comes down to if you are willing to spend the extra 100. I think there would be a big performance difference between the two laptops, and that the extra 100 would be well spent. I live in the US so I can't be of much help finding other options for you .

I just did a very quick search

it seems that the 4500MHD is a better video card then the x3100
But does this compaq have HDMI?
because the version i found in the local store has (and is it worth the loss of 70Gb HDD and 1GB ram less, then the amazon one. the amazon one is 550euros without garantie, the local store one is 599 with 2 year garantie)

To the right of the ethernet port looks like an HDMI port, but now I think it's an eSATA port...

I think it's a HDMI port

So that's settled
But now Iw as wondering. buy the 599euro one (lose 1GB ram and 70GB HDD), but get 2 years warranty. Or buy the 517euro one and add 135euros for the 2 years amzon warranty. that makes 652 euros for the second one (with the extra GB ram and 250GB hDD) Is it worth it as all the rest is the same.

(note the 599 one has 256MB shared video memory (4500MHD graphics card. the amazon one has (so it seems) up to 1277MB Total Available Graphics Memory (also a 4500MHD)

yet the ram concerns me as they both run vista home premium

I never get warranties on anything, the only reason I think to get a warranty on a laptop is so that you can get a new battery every time it runs out. Other than that it's up to you.

k, thanks man
i've never actually bought something online. So I ain'tr eally fond of throwing my bank account out there . Dunno just about all the hoaxes you hear out there.

Also, I know amazon is pretty well known, but do they deliver well and stick upto their rules about warranty (read that you can return the product within 30days if something is wrong)

Never had any experience with them
