Good lord, I don't see how there CAN be any paste on that thing.

44 C above ambient at IDLE? I've seen cooler nuclear reactors!

I'm not the Intel expert, but I would venture to guess about 22 to 26 C above ambient? Someone should correct me here. I know my CPU idles at 13 to 17 during the evening and 17 to 20 during the day, but you've got 50W more TDP on me.

Dear god that thing must have NO THERMAL PASTE AT ALL.

Edit: Seriously, I can't even touch 32 C at load after running Orthos on both cores for two hours...I'm shocked this CPU still works. O_o

Simple honest advice (to a simple, honestly epic thread):
If you aren't okay with fixing it yourself, a) OCN is gonna fix that soon, b) take it to someone and ASK them how much it will cost BEFORE agreeing. DON'T let them talk you into anything. Tell us the price they're asking.

Plus, can you use a bit nicer grammar? I'm sorry it sounds rude, it just...urrggg....

~Error

Another thing: try taking a can of air (staples, ask the rep) to it.

Edit:

Intel's DTS is not accurate at idle, it can easily drift 10C in either direction.

Anyway, I have utterly no idea what all the fuss is over. Nothing looks remotely wrong with the temps posted, and I doubt they will improve significantly with a cleaning, new thermal paste, and remount.

Coretemp is reporting mid 40C's idle, low 50Cs at 50% load, and ~63C possibly running OCCT in Singapore (where it's probably 80F+ now)? Yeah, sounds like a real disaster to me...

Furthermore, 70C isn't going to harm the chip, 80C isn't going to harm the chip, even 90C+ at stock voltage is not going to damage the chip. Thermal throttling (around 95-100C) and/or shutdown (127C) will kick in before any harm is done at stock speeds and volts. There is no reason not to fire Prime95 to test and see if there is even a problem.
