Looks good....and yes you should be able to at the very least hit 3.8ghz....more like 4ghz+ with a TRUE.

I however talking about reasonable temperatures. 60C under load? maybe 55C? would it be reasonable to assume I can keep temps in that area with that build? That's one of the things that I am nervous about not being able to do.

I have my system oc'ed to 4.0 and stays right around 65C under full load. I will be posting a thread with all of my new computer parts and settings tonight when i get home

With temps at 60 you can expect like a 3.4Ghz to 3.6 with a TRUE lol, this chips does run quite hot, although I run mine at the max spec, 71 C at 3.8Ghz .

but wouldn't memory speed be a factor when overclocking? I'm getting a 920, I can only increase the multiplier by 1

Yeah I agree...

I have ran Intel's stock cooler with overclocking to 3.35ghz without any issues. Overclocking the i7 920 is dead easy.... Overclocking the memory is hard...

I can run my 920 at stock speeds and overclock my memory to whatever I want on the Asus P6T Deluxe. The issue is voltages and keeping them within an acceptable range. The QPI voltage should be within 0.5 volts of DRAM voltage for safety. So to really push your memory, you will have to overclock the cpu if you go beyond DDR3 1333mhz.

Right now after getting my first board back from an RMA due to a bad bios issue I have my cpu running at stock and my DDR3 1066 running at 1333mhz.

This article may help you even if it's geared to the P6T:
