That sounds right, but I forget which lane is which. Where is ericeod when you really need him?

Working on my Q9550 right now

Ericeod was viewing the thread when I was posting earlier. I guess he figured you could handle it error10.

Now don't let him down!

So I just booted into 3.8ghz unlinked ram @ 450mhz and vcore @ 1.475mhz. CPU-Z shows 1.464v idle though. I'm restarting and going to up the vcore a little and p95 it.

When I went to restart, the OS shut down, but didn't come back up. Why would that be?

Edit: Well, when I did a hard shut down, I boot to bios, adjust the vcore and now it doesn't post.

NoodleGTS- your Q6600 is on water right?

That could be unstable ram. Check your ram voltage and if it's good then try running a memtest.

I don't understand this whole pencil mod thing. It DOESN'T work. It will not work. Who was the genius that thought of this.

Zoki318- I was a little skeptical too but hey, I had a variance of .3 before and .03 after. It might be some sort of electrical placebo, but it works for me!

Memtest turned out ok.

I can boot into 3.8 now and run p95, but my temps get up to 72 after 30 seconds or so. It's odd because they are:

Core #0: 72
Core #1: 61
Core #2: 61
Core #3: 72

I lapped both my heatsink and cpu, but did i do that bad of a job? I checked it with a razorblade and it looked ok. Maybe it's the weight from the TRUE w/2 Ultra Kaze 3000's on it?

BIOS Vcore: 1.475
OS Vcore: 1.464 (1.472-1.48 under load)
FSB Voltage: 1.4
SPP: 1.45
MCP: 1.65
SPP<->MCP: 1.4

QDR: 1690.1
Mem: 844.9
Linked/Sync

What would cause my Vcore to jump under load higher than what it's set to in the BIOS?

Ok, after looking through a few guides, I think the NB GTL is actually CPU FSB in the Phoenix BIOS. CPU FSB I/O is CPU VTT which is the equation used to calculate GRL Reference for NB, but they just label it differently.

If that's the case, then I'm as high as I can go and be safe.

If you lapped the CPU and the TRUE then the bolt-through kit may not hold it on tightly enough anymore. You can try the washer mod.

I should also note that it's doubtful you'll need two Ultra Kaze 3000s if you've got decent airflow in your case. In my Q6600 3.6GHz backup rig I have one Slip Stream 1900 on the TRUE and on-die temps run around 50-55 degrees under load. I USED to have the Ultra Kaze on it, but it proved too noisy. Temps were virtually unchanged after I switched it out. But I can hear again!
