Overclocking my Q9550 on the 750i FTW

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Just got my brand new Q9550 from Newegg today (and my free Intel water bottle). Started to do some overclocking before I even booted into Windows at stock!

3.4GHz at stock voltage seemed stable enough, so I'm now testing 3.825 on stock volts. That will probably fail soon, but it's worth trying!

Will post results as they come in, but just a quick question for now though. Does anyone know what TjMax is for the Q9550? I had 95C for my E8400. Using realtemp and I want to get accurate temp readings.

Thanks a bunch

I think it is 100 but I am not 100% sure.

3.825 GHz on stock volts.. actually holding up for longer than I expected. Let's see if it's stable... 1.272v BTW

Any seconds on the TJ Max? 100C seems right but I want to be 100% sure.

Nice OC. If you can get over 4GHz I may just get one

Dude I haven't actually started increasing voltage yet, still running on stock!

Btw I have a question about Prime95.. so I'm running it and it seems like my 4th core is faster than the others.. it's ahead by 3 tests over cores 1 and 3, and 2 tests over core 2.... and I've only been running for like 45 mins.

Is this normal or do I have a super core (or worse, 3 epic fail cores )

EDIT -

Okay 3.825 GHz lasted ~50 minutes at stock volts. Trying again with lightly higher voltage.. this time ~1.328v

Just in case you don't know, if you leave the voltage on auto and increase the FSB the voltage goes up. Sometimes way up. What does CPUz say the voltage is and what are your temps? Mine will go up over 1.4 if left on auto.

Hey,

yeah I know that I just don't REALLY consider it increasing the voltage unless I have to do it. Had to up the voltage manually just a tid-bit as my first run froze after an hour or so. Right now I'm pretty stable (I think) at 3.825Ghz w/ ram overclocked to 900 (from 800). CPU-z is 1.328v.

Ran 3Dmark Vantage and scored a respectable 24,446..

Will do another overnight Prime95 run to test for stability, then shoot for 4Ghz if the results are good.

Btw idle temps are like 35C and load usually ~50C. Water cooling setup with CPU and NB on it here.

Okay so this last run lasted about 4 hours and then I went to bed.. when I woke up my screen was blank and my computer was frozen... so reboot and up the voltage!

Trying again for 3.825GHz at 1.382v. I really wish my motherboard didn't suck so bad!
