Fallout 3 on an old agp ATI 9600pro possible?

Thread Starter
Bit of a side one. (unsure if this belongs here as it's a card question, or the fallout 3 thread) Just wondering if anyone's managed to get their old ATI 9600 pro cards to run on fallout 3 (yes I know this card is not officially supported).

I'm running a Nvidia 7600gs myself and it run's ok. Even better on my ATI 2600 laptop. Only reason I'm wondering this is Fallout 3 runs on the Oblivion engine, and I remember getting an old Nvidia Ti4200 to run Oblivion. Now this card was way off the minimum specs required for this game too (some guy released a mod so it could run it...brought the game back to looking almost equal to morrowind...that and I had the card overclocked to Ti4600 specs). I know the ATI 9600 pro was about medium (or just below medium) specs for this game so figured this may be possible to run Fallout 3.

Yes I know if it does run it would look crap on the old 9600pro and some may ask "why would you want too?", but I'm simply keen to find out if it will run...and isn't that what overclockings all about?

It should run fine, 9600 Pro is much better than a Ti4200 me thinks.

go here and select the game. it'll do a scan to make sure it'll run
don't worry it's completely safe

that system requirements labs isnt accurate and the card he is asking is obviously unsupported.

i highly doubt that it will be playable but if it will be id applaud bethesda, they would be as flexible as valve when it comes to gaming haha.

btw tried OBlivion on an ati integrated x1270 and works on low - medium settings.

Hmm looks like I'll have to dust off the old 9600 then on the weekend to install and give it a crack...could be it's last hurrah, much like the Ti4200 was with Oblivion.

Not aware of any old graphics mods being made for fallout 3, but suffice to say I wouldn't be surprised if one popped up as per the Oblivion one (yes I'm keeping my eyes peeled for one).

RG1220 - I check that labs site quite often for games before I buy them, it's a good guide but I do sometimes question it's accuracy. As I've had games that fail the test but run fine on my machine (farcry 2 failed, but runs)....though I do run most things overclocked a bit.

What kind of performance do you get with the 7600gs and FO3?

It runs ok, bit chunky at times, but that's because 7600's have some issues on older gigabyte boards, has to do with the sli chip, need to run win 2000 sli driver so it doesn't artifact though vista (would run better in XP). Can still get away with low to medium specs at stock and a few extras when overclocked (but without a volt mod the 7600gs doesn't clock very high).

The lappy's 2600 however run it on med to high.
