I won't say this but I really like the XFX/EVGA's I had a MSI that was my loyal board for years and going MSI isn't bad but I don't know how the new boards do but if you happen to buy one and aren't comfortable with it there is always the XFX/EVGA. EVGA also have the FTW versions with solid capacitors, MSI have them on almost all boards but that's the advice I can give you.

What's the difference between the regular 780i and the FTW edition? Is it worth the extra cash? Do the 750i and 780i overclock the same?

I own most of the EVGA boards (750i FTW, 780i FTW, and a 790i Ultra).

For dual card, the 750i FTW is the best choice. For Tri-SLI (which I have tried and determined after much testing and general havok that it was a waste of time), either the 780i FTW or 790i Ultra are about the same in overclocking (decent but not stellar).

The older, standard 780i (I owned the first one in Canada) should be avoided as even the 750i FTW outperforms it. The 790i FTW is a POS ...

It's the solid capacitors.
It's also comes with less volt drop due to better circuits probably.
I don't know OC wise but the FTW version have better capacitors which leads to better flow of electricity.
I haven't pencil modded mine and it goes from 1.392 to 1.368 ( ~0.024 ) when going from idle to load which is much less than both the ASUS STRIKER II FORMULA and the MSI P6N Platinum did.

the ftw use solid caps and have vdroop control.

750i FTW is better than the vanilla 780i.

the 780i FTW has all of the advantages of the 750i FTW and can support tri-sli.

Not unless your folding or you plan on TRI-SLI+raidcard. Go with an EVGA 750i or 780i. *JaKe*

I tried the MSI and Asus 780i boards. Utter garbage (and I'm a big fan of asus in general).

The Asus P5N-T has to be one of the worst nvidia boards I ever owned.

ive herd they react differently, a 750i board takes 2 gfx cards and overclocks reasonably, but the 780i dont over clock well with mulipule cards,
my only dilema is getin a new baord,
i dont have much cash atm so iwas gona get a B Grade motherbaord of overclockers, not much choice, either a p5n-t 780i board, msi p7n diamond, gigabyte x48 or dfi x48, with the nforce boards comin in at 70 pound, and the x48s at 110 with postage, my aw9d board is on its way out so need to replace it fast.
i wanted to push the e5200 to its maximum, need a low cost board, so msi or asus?

The 780i's overclock just fine regardless of the number of cards. I have 3 different boards (750i FTW, 780i ftw and 790i ultra), all with SLI setups. The quads and duals I use on the have no issue with overclocking.

Stay away from MSI nvidia based boards. they are problematic to say the least.
