I have a dell Vista disk from my brothers computer, do they limit it to only that computer, or will I be able to install it on a new one? Anyone try this before?

And where do you plan to get the Windows license?

Well it's illegal, but hypothetically it should work and you'll just have a bunch of useless drivers and bloatware.

It has a key on the back of the cd cover. I'm guessing that's all I need?

It should search for a dell bios, and if one is not found it will not work and display an error message, that is unless dell has slacked on their security.

Yeah I know Dell's been using TPM's much like a mac to authenticate the computer to the OS as of late.

Not if it has already been used.

It shouldn't install on anything but a Dell. If it does, than you will just need a valid license key.

That's an OEM key for your Dell. The disc is just a Vista disc with dell writing on it, it's no different. The key, however, is for the Dell machine only, and cannot be used on any other machine legally. You'll have to buy a copy of Windows, sorry.
