Help! My Hard Drive is Write Protected!

Thread Starter
On my sig rig I've got a 250Gb SATA2 drive as primary and another two IDE drives. Normally everything is fine, but every once in a while my IDE drives become write-protected on their own. I can read from them but cannot copy to them, or I get this error (see picture). I'm running Vista Business 64-bit, I have UAC disabled, and the last time it happened after a BSOD overnight (probably from GPU OC + Folding).

Normally my account has full control over these drives, but when this happens those write permissions disappear. A restart usually fixes this, however I was hoping there's something I'm missing that would prevent this from happening.

right click your hard drive in my computer and deslect "read-only" that should do it. if not, take control of the folders you want by right clicking them and finding them somewhere in the menu. sorry, no on vista right now, ubuntu ftw!

Well it's not only my IDE drives, also my 2nd SATA partition as well.

If I go and change the disc permissions to allow write, it has to change it for every file on the disc, which would take forever. It does work to change attributes for SOME individual folders, but other times it says "The media is write protected" and won't let me!

(procpuarie, I tried live booting Ubuntu on this rig but it never seemed to like that so I'm afraid I have hardware that Ubuntu won't play with, otherwise I would install it once I get more HD space.)
