[Reuters] Yahoo unveils new toolbar for Web browsing

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Yahoo unveiled a new toolbar on Monday that will give Web users access to their e-mail as they surf the Web, the latest step in its strategy to make its products more open to users and third parties.

Firefox, Yahoo, Microsoft and others make toolbars -- small strips that sit atop Web browsers -- to give users quicker and easier access to Internet functions.

The Yahoo toolbar available later this week will allow users access to a selected group of programs from the toolbar without leaving the page they are on.
Right, because that's exactly what's going to save you from the Googlemonster, Yahoo, another toolbar. Love how the new toolbar comes with 1,500 lay-offs, gotta love this economy.

Unless they add a "Dispense cake" button I'm still going to untick the "Install Yahoo! toolbar" option on installing the countless software that has it.

I have four toolbars. Coincidentally, they are the four that Firefox comes preloaded with(File/edit/etc, navigation, bookmarks and active tabs). I don't plan on adding another anytime soon...most people don't. Doesn't Yahoo know this?

Companies still provide toolbars? Srsly?

Ah toolbars, the hallmark of an less-tech-savvy PC user. You can tell when someone doesn't know how to use a computer when you sit to borrow their machine and you find that they've managed to accumulate 4 3rd-party toolbars at the top of their browser.
