Ah, I see... it takes twenty seperate accounts of it hitting 6ghz to finally convince every that it can, and somehow only takes one account of 5ghz to convince everyone that it can't.

Right.

Proof is all that matters. I have an "account" of i7 hitting 20 ghz. And that's all it is, an "account".

Also, holy crap @ v core

Well look who's saying it, quite obvious why he posted...

Anyways, the Phenom II is looking quite promising. If they keep the price low this could be a good comeback for AMD.

So all of the CPU-Z screens, well esteemed members of XS forums, expert overclockers, and reporters from review sites that saw it first hand running 6Ghz all four cores, no tricks, on multiple occasions... isn't proof, but a crappy OC job from THG is?

As has been said by many people, this is probably not definitive of the chip's oc'ing ability. The article seems to indicate they only gave it a quick shot, trying to replicate AMD's OC when they had time to kill. Remember when i7 first came out, TH said it had limited oc'ing potential? They later had to retract that statement when they decided to investigate it more, and found out it could OC quite decently.

Just thought this would be interesting, because its one of the first benchmarks posted by a reputable source, with all the relevant screenies.

I also find it very interesting, it is just funny how heavy the burden of proof is in one direction, and how light it is in the other...

Thanks for posting it. +rep

Intel and AMD Vcore way is different..Stop thinking its the same
1.5V on Air,4.0Ghz only 45C on Load(Phenom II)

For sure, I think both the i7 chips and phenom II's from what we've seen are great. I also don't doubt they hit 6.0ghz, and I believe eventually someone else will replicate that again. Will it be easy? Who knows, but even if it does take LN2 and a lot of effort its almost certainly possible. AMD have already done it more than once *shrug*

I just chalk it up to initial impressions, not a full blown OC'ing attempt, time will tell!

1.84 Vcore does indeed sound crazy but we have seen other benchmarks proving a better overclock, like others have said toms might have rushed this instead of taking their time and getting it right.

off topic: will there ever be a new intel or amd processor thread that does not have people raggin on amd and iandh defending them over and over? the last three threads that even mentioned phenom II are nearly identical and its very annoying, i give it another 30 minutes before i see "003 should leave" "amd>intel" "intel>amd" tags.
