off topic: will there ever be a new intel or amd processor thread that does not have people raggin on amd and iandh defending them over and over? the last three threads that even mentioned phenom II are nearly identical and its very annoying, i give it another 30 minutes before i see "003 should leave" "amd>intel" "intel>amd" tags.
Well if these chips prove to be stellar oc'ers and provide some competition to intel over at least the yorkfields (note I said competition, not dominate. I quite prefer competition tbh, lack of it breeds laziness) I think AMD will earn back a lot of trust/reputation from the performance community.

In such light, there would probably be less cpu-biased flaming, but you'll never get rid of it. There will always be fans of either camp, and while its cool if you prefer one brand over another some people do take it too far. Somewhat similar to the console fanboy arguments.

There's people who legitimately question the potential of the phenoms, hoping it will do well but are reserving judgement due to some of AMD's more recent chips. That's ok, its better to ask questions than to accept it on face value. Then you have the people who will not accept under any circumstances that a competitor could possibly offer a decent alternative, and what is more confusing is that they dont want it to either. This I cannot understand. Why would you want to pay more for something, except if you want to prove you can own something others cannot? We live in a world with scarcity after all.

Competition between manufacturers, forcing price drops is almost always a win for the consumer, unless you have invested in either company somehow or have some ulterior motive.

Real world performance speaks for itself. Don't waste your time on Pi.

Your clever worded argument falls on deaf ears. It's been tried before, over and over. Let them pay obscene amounts of money as they please.

The funny thing is that you talk about me defending them over and over and then say the exact same thing I've been mentioning in every one of my posts.

This isn't about me "defending" AMD. I ran a Q6600, E7200, and E8400 for my last three chips, and soon as AMD had something that interested me (9950 125w and awesome 790GX chipset), I switched back.

I am very excited about this chip, and would like to discuss it, here on this discussion forum. Unfortunately, I can't seem to accomplish this goal because as I've stated 50x before, the herd of intellitubbies seems to be more interested in talking about how cool their chips are rather than making fair and logical comparisons or even just saying, "Hey I don't like AMD but that looks pretty cool!".

I feel that I've made some progress over the past week or so, but sadly my job will never be done, so I suppose that I will eventually tire.

Yeah.

It's easier to let the problem solve itself . That is, let them do what they want. If they're as thick-headed as they present themselves to be then it's not worth arguing anything.

The somewhat intelligible among us can deduce that this is a fine product at an excellent price point and serves as excellent competition. Ever since Intel had Core, they've been leaning towards the more expensive side. More power to AMD for being able to release a kick ass product like this for less than the competitors lowest-speed chip.

Well I have two intel quads, and an e8400 system in this house (with an nvidia 260) which I built for other people. They're fine systems and I loved working with them. I don't think anyone is saying their not, but like you said it would be nicer if they were cheaper (as a result of comptetion). I don't think people would argue that intel has priced i7 thinking it could charge extra due to a lack of amd offerings.

I love both intel and amd, but I am really glad that amd is coming out with what looks to be awesome chips, at very competitive prices. If intel prices i7 to compete, or i5 proves to be a real winner, I'll go intel for my next build (after putting a deneb in this system). For me, it all boils down to who offers the best performance for the price.

I feel the exact same way . giving some people a worthwhile argument is like throwing more fuel on the fire sometimes.

Dude, this is overclock.net. Not intelligent "discussion" on things that aren't cool. (Like AMD ).

Yeah that's what I thought it was as well. Reportedly, the Phenom FX-82 is stock at 4.4Ghz on air but I think it's going to be an AM3 socket so maybe it's just on that platform. However, 4.0Ghz on air cooling is fantastic and that's also only the stock cooler. I can't wait to see what new coolers will come out. I'm waiting on Thermaltake to make me something good.

I think being that we are a bunch of obsessive compulsive computer nerds arguing about who is the king uber-nerd we pretty much have forfeited all concern for coolness by default.
