Need help overclocking 965 Extreme and P6T Deluxe OC - Page 2

Thanks for the Welcome, however I feel like I must clarify my last post with a bit of detail.

Today after I saw the puddle I switched back to the stock intel heatsink
I think the problem that I had is due to the customizing that i had to do to mount it and make it work for the skeleton case, I had to extend the factory hoses 7 inches to fit. I dont think I got it as tight as they do at coolit. so I called them to get some new clamps to crimp on againand he said they would extend the hoses for me and send me a new one. and I think that is good customer service since I was the one who re-worked the hoses and didn't get them tight again. but that is me. For the time it has been on my desk it has worked fine But i was not overclocking much.

here are the pics of how this is mounted. took me a while to think of how to do this.

gooddog with the hyperthreading off the temps are lower but I still need alot of voltage to run at higher speeds, I had to get to 1.41v to run 3dmark 06.
I did get a score of 25686 (close to that anyway I was playing at lunch)
I will upload the screen shot tonight.

Again thanks for the help.

1.41 is not that bad. There does seem to be a step function required in voltage at around 4G.

One other thing to try is the same setup with the CPU Clock skew at 800 and the other clock skew at 900 (forgot what the other one is called). See if you can run at lower voltages with that. But I don't think it will be dramatically lower. Maybe 1.39 or so?

The clock skew settings are at the bottom on the tab where you do most other settings for OC'ing.

I would like to blame the fact that I am typing this from Splash top on the fact that I was playing with the cpu skew however after a series of chkdisk and disk checking programs have been run from cd, I belive that the high pitch whine that I was hearing was not the bearing that I thought. (fan) But in fact it was the HDD and I think that it is a total fail.
So after some re-installing tomorrow/friday/saturday (when I can find time during this busy season) I will try again. I also think that a few problems were caused by heat. I was using the Palm and watching the CPU temps they were up around 72/74c so By the weekend I will have the freeze zone installed and have an Idea where I stand with temps... and noise (for those who are thinking about buying one). I should be around all day sunday and be ready to try all sorts of settings in my quest to 4.5ghz

I would like to thank gooddog for his advice as it got me to 4.2 with a stock intel cpu cooler.

make sure timings on ram are entered manually for the main settings (e.g. 8,8,8,20 - or whatever your ram is).
CaMeLiRiS, I am sorry I am at work right now but this is the start point that took me to 4ghz with no problems on the factory cooler. and this is a solid starting point. Right now this is where I am back to since I had a Cooler melt down (waiting for a new one again)

If you dont know your Ram timings when you enter the dram settings it will display at the top of the screen. 8,8,8,20 or whatever it is.

Congrats on the new system and post your results Gooddog is the one who helped me get started and I have pushed past the starting point just by upping the frequency and voltage (I have not gone past 1.45v for cpu and QPI. Good luck and I look forward to seeing positive results.

For the 920, but several 965 users have posted there as well. I've documented my progress there as well.

I've gotten as high as 4.2, but am not willing to run 1.4V 24x7 just yet, so I'm at a nice, stable 4.0..
