Which quad should I go with?

Thread Starter
I decided not to build an i7 set up, and save a little green. I pretty much decided on getting a quad to put into an EVGA 750i. I picked out the Q9550, but it is pretty expensive. Could I buy any of the lower end quads and OC it to pretty much the same as the Q9550, or is OCing that miles better than the rest? Are there any other better motherboards for around the same price? Thanks.

many have reached 550+ FSB with this board its a monster. Also you can go crossfire if you wanted to.

Q9550 or used Q6600 your choice.

P45-UD3P is a great board. Agreed with the CPU choices, don't get something like the Q9300/8200, low multi's will hold you back and they aren't great OC'ers.

A Q9450 should also be an option though, and you can look for used Q6700's if you can find them.

You can look around on Ebay for decently priced factory sealed Q9550's atm also.

Q6600 for the sweet price point, can't go wrong with that baby.

i would stay away from the q6600s as they are being outclassed very fast, as other posters have said, a Q9450 would be a good choice!
good luck!

I agree on that mobo. It is a beast and OCs easily. I have a Q9550 and a Q6600... if you can afford it, skip the Q6600. It's a nice proc, but it's no contest between the two. My Q6600 maxes out around 3.7. My q9550 hit 4.0 without breaking a sweat. As has been said, the q9450 will prob do better than the q6600 also...
