ok so there are just a few more things which im a bit unsure about. with the self etching primer can i get any colour like grey, black, etc?
if i was to do 3 light coats of primer, how long between should i wait between coats for the primer to dry before applying the next coat?
and finally how long should i wait for the final coat of primer to dry before i begin spray painting?

If you are going to paint the inside white or a light color, go with grey. If you are doing black or a dark color, do the dark primer.

Prolly 10-20 minutes. You just want it to dry a little so that it does not run.

I would wait atleast an hour if you are in a warm room. The colder it is, the longer you want to wait.

you can prime every 5-10 minutes, then let it sit 15 mins or so. If it doesnt need sanding you can begin painting right away (most acrylic primer cans say "recoat or top coat any time")

acrylic paint is much the same, recoat waiting 5-10 mins in between each coat

you can also clear coat right away, but if you need to color sand (or wet sand) youll need to wait for the last coat of paint to be dry enough (24-48 hours)

Using Krylon acrylic indoor outdooer paint and primer I "speed painted" these case latch brackets for The Intelligence project

4 coats primer, 5 mins between coats, then wait 10 mins
4 coats black gloss, 5 mins between coats, then wait 10 mins
4 coats clear coat, 5 mins between coats
done

all depends on the area you live in. if u live in a more humid area like coast side or something, may want to let it sit a bit longer than if u lived in a desert or something.

also something that may help is putting the spray can in a bucket of warm water. helps give a more fine spray.

CR - this sucks living on the west coast. I now have to get up at 4am to beat you to a post.

Srsly, we need to put our heads together and make a complete painting guide. I've done quite a bit of paintwork and heaven knows you have and between us, I think we could piece together a very thorough and detailed guide.

That's not very detailed. And it doesn't show the proper way for actually applying the coats and making the paint flow. Bet you didn't know the best way to paint a flat panel is to stand it up and paint bottom to top.

lol, I am up at 5am so youd need to be up at 2am to beat me
but yeah, a couple of guides would be cool, on painting, and some other stuff - that would be fun. I am no authority on painting, I just share what I learned during my projects but it may not always be right (or wrong).

I think what smasher meant to say was Thanks for posting, all info helps, but there are more detailed guides than that one, but its a start. no one guide tends to cover it all +rep
