Need help with painting cm690 - Page 3

it can be shorter than 15 minutes (check the can) but 15 is ok too.

I find in some situations acrylic primer will develop "fuzzies" (can be caused by many factors) but it will be apparent in the final coat that you let dry (thats why I recommend 5 mins between primer coats - fuzzies wont appear that quickly). If you get fuzzies, or any uneveness you dont like, let the last coat of primer dry a good 1-2 hours (1 is ok in moderate temps, hot or cold wait 2 hours) then lightly sand dry with 400 grit. Only wet sand primer that says its ok for wet sanding (Krylon burgundy one is an example) If your primer dries smooth with no blemishes then you can skip sanding the primer and move onto your color coats

but yeah, a couple of guides would be cool, on painting, and some other stuff - that would be fun. I am no authority on painting, I just share what I learned during my projects but it may not always be right (or wrong).

thanks for posting that, all info helps.

I think what smasher meant to say was Thanks for posting, all info helps, but there are more detailed guides than that one, but its a start. no one guide tends to cover it all +rep
precisely. but i was in a hurry to run out the door so i shortcutted.

Im starting to feel the itch to mod another one myself. Maybe this spring I will do it specifically for the purpose of making a proper in-depth guide. What I wouldn't give to have a Cosmos to mod. It would be the size of a lanbox when I was done with it.

soo what do you guys recommend me to paint the interior with matt/flat or a satin? i dnt want gloss. satin is like a mix between a mat and a gloss/semi gloss right?

im a bit unsure bout some people saying if the primer doesnt need sanding? why would i sand the primer?
You would sand the primer if you want a smooth surface like a mirror on the next coat any roughness will be transmitted to the coat on top and magnified 10x. so if you have a orange peelish surface it will only get magnified when you paint the next coat and so on.

You do not have to go to this length by any means but I sanded every coat from etch primer to clear coat with the exeception of the base coat.

Flat satin black BTW.
