Acer One with XP for 250.00... Worth it???

Thread Starter
Hello Wally world is selling these things for 250.00 and I would like to get my GF a Lappy. I have a few questions though, will it perform all the same functions as a regular laptop? I know that there is no optical drive, but aside from that is this thing a full fledged laptop?

Aside from gaming can it perform all the same functions as a normal PC or it just made for internet browsing? Her primary use is for school (business degree) and regular home use, and aside from gaming will it work as if she was at her PC?

Thanks for clearing up these issues for me?

It'll work, though it'll also perform like a several year old laptop. Also the screen is small and the keyboard is VERY small. I have trouble with the keyboards which pretty much prevents me from considering them for myself.

Eh, I have one and I must tell you I've replaced it with my desktop for 3 months (that if you don't game at all). I've installed Vista on it since the day I got it and will put OSX too once I get my external DVD drive. This thing is blazing fast, don't let people fool you saying the Atom is weak because it isn't. I own the 120gb version, if they are letting it go for 250 I bet that's the SSD one; installing windows in it is not difficult but if I were you I'd rather stick to Linpus, very girlfriend-friendly (trust me when I say this). I bet your girlfriend isn't doing more than Chatting / MP3'ing and Facebook/Myspace'ing.

I just got mine, and i like it very much!

Haven't had time to do very much on it, but web browsing/messenger/movies and music/office programs work very good on it
