[Gmeware.ir] Phenom II 940 - 3GHz reviewed - Page 5

Honestly I don't mind 30 fps for casual gaming (fallout 3, mass effect, etc.) but for things like L4D I really need to be maxing the refresh of my monitor or else it just gets irritating.

That said after a week of arguing about the Phenom II, I think that we (computer users as a whole) are pretty much set on hardware. I would like to start seeing performance improvements in software such as multithreading support, and maybe a nifty new game engine that runs like source and looks like crysis.

Definitely agree here, we have more then enough hardware power. But software needs to catch up.

Look at the BIOS screen.

NB Clock: 1600Mhz

Inadequate BIOS support again. It's running "AM2" legacy mode I think (NOT to be confused with AM2+ mode which should work fine).

All arguments aside I think it once again comes around to us waiting for official benches with hardware that we know within reason is functioning at least 99% properly.

Plus it's only 3 more days till the NDA curtain topples.

But none of these new processers do anything for gaming. The GPU is what powers the game, the CPU does other stuff. Once CPU is effecient enough. Theres no difference in gaming with CPU clocked @ 2.4 or 3.0 ,,,the GPU does the work, which is why when 3dmark runs the CPU test,, you get 1fps or 2fps lol,,,
Out of this entire thread, this post contained so much fail, it's not even funny. And you do know that the CPU test, 0-2 fps is normal because it's not necessarily testing how quickly it can draw pretty pictures. That's what the other tests are doing.

The CPU affects the GPU to some extent, which is why you see such drastic framerate differences even with the same video card if you change or overclock the processor. Doesn't matter if you have the fastest video card in the world if your CPU can't calculate things like physics and AI quickly enough for you to play a game smoothly.
