You need to let kids be their own people. You are there to protect them from harm. You think half life is harmful?
Did I say that? My point was that Kids should not be allowed to do the things they do these days until they come of age. Let kids be kids while they can be. I mean, you can buy alcohol the day you turn 21, but does that mean certain people are ready to? You still can buy it and drink. Maybe some people shouldn't, but at that point, it is their right.

Parents let there kids do whatever they want these days and when they become little a**holes.. they wonder why. Then, when someone trys to raise there kid right and the kid kills someone, they say there has to be issue at home. They may have been, but we don't know the whole story. Even if someone is abused, that does not give them the right to kill someone. And obviouly the kid must not have been to crazy up to that point or the parents would not have trusted him enough to close their eyes. Ever think about that?

This is obviously the case of an evangelist father putting unfair restrictions on this kid his whole life. It's the same as getting picked on. Something you think is not a big deal to you, will build up if it happens everyday. I mean he is 17 and isn't allowed to play halo. What do you think his life was like when he was 12? not allowed to talk to girls? I mean he just kept getting boxed into a corner, finally found something he enjoyed, then that was also taken from him, so he lashed out.

this is where personal psychology comes into play. at this point he hates is father and mother. Now it's all about him. Some people would put up with people they hate. some people would kill them, he is obviously the latter.

the kid is messed up for sure. and deserves to be locked up for a long long time. But If his father wasn't so tight lipped this prob would not have happened. He lived with a bully.

right that's the 12th amendment right?
his parents were wrong, he was far more wrong.
Pretty much sums it up.

Btw, isn't the recommended age for Halo 3 17? Obviously the restrictions went much farther then this game, just curious. Generally here in French Canada the ratings are lower by a few years, at least for movies.

To be brutally honest, i took one look at the picture of him and knew he would be a criminal and have no actual value to society - and considering he would happily kill his parents to play a game shows that there is something seriously wrong with him. Prison... pointless - may aswell remove his life as he won't achieve anything useful with it.

Qft, this is what we call Darwinism at work (no religious/other offence meant to any such individuals). I can't say I agree with capital punishment period, but there is no way in hell H3 "made" him do this. Maybe he was completely crazy - they should probably a) do their homework and reseach the game, and b) I'm sure that he wouldn't just go from Mr. SweetAndLoving to killing his parent over H3. Not possible, and they should've noticed the signs and had the appropriate doctor look at him. Honest.

Edit: B-80 has a great point. I suggest reading the quote a few posts up

If you really wanna be brutally straight, his mother sucked at parenting apparently, and so she died. Her genes are now limited.

*That's not saying I am taking that side!*

I find it hypocritical when a kid shoots up a school and you have a bunch of pundits on some forum criticize the parents for allowing their degenerate kid to play "violent video games" in the first place - Then you have a case like this come along and you side with the kid who shot the parents for imposing boundaries that every other person says they should enforce.
I totally agree with you. When you have kids shooting up a bunch of people, video games are blamed in the media, and on a smaller level, people talk about how it's the parents' fault. When you have a kid that shoots his parents for keeping him from playing violent games, it's the parents fault for trying.

I think the kid is old enough to know right from wrong at that age.

The guy must've really loved his Halo... more than his parents, I guess. He had to choose one or the other. Perhaps now he'll have neither and end up in a Jail where all he can do is nothing all day (since he can't do much physical activity). Perhaps then he can take his anger out on some inmates or something.
