Amd Athlon 4850e overclocking

Thread Starter
Hello everyone , i'm new here and i need help with overcloking....
I'm kinda new to CPU and RAM overclocking so i need some guidence.I don't want to overclock to the limits , just a little bit because ill be using a stock cooler (3Ghz would be awsome , a bit less won't disapoint me either, anything more than that will be overkill IMO), also i would like to avoid raising the Voltage . Anyways i was doing some research(reading guides mainly) for the past week and i'm a bit confused about the RAM timing(don't know if it will be possible to overclock value RAM at all ) and some Bios settings(i think i'm missing some). If you need any more info , i'll try to provide it asap
P.S. I'm abit worried about the PSU, i'm pretty sure it will handle the load of the OC, but i have read somewhere that after OC'ing a 45W chip it will most likely double the W consumption...

I have the same chip and currently I have it running @ 2.875ghz ( 230 x 12.5 ) on stock volts.

It only puts out 52 watts at 2.8ghz. I would love to go higher, but I bought the ****ty Biostar board that was'nt a TA model. So thats really as high as I can go because I can't adjust the vocre at all.

1.23 vcore is what i'm running now at 2.875 rock solid.

As for the timmings, download CPU-Z and see what they are suppose to be at what speeds.

Most DDR2 will run at 2.1-2.2 volts no problem.

You can overclock value RAM. I have recently used value RAM but I did not push it very far. You should google to see the specs of the RAM before you do anything. When you start OCing by increasing your FSB your memory mhz will increase as well. Do you have a DDR setting in your BIOS that is adjustable? e.g., DDR400, DDR533, DDR blah, blah? If so the first thing you need to do is drop it down to DDR400 and start running your test on your mobo to see where your system shows instability as you rasie your FSB on your stock voltage. Once you find that out then you can go on to see what your CPU is capable of on that same voltage. Be sure to refer to the guides here for the best practice. And run ORTHOS test after each increase.

Good Luck!

6-6-6-18?

My God, my corsairs could do 1066mhz at those timings. Try 5-5-5-15 and see if it will run that at DDR800. Might have to go to 1.9 or 2.0 to get there.

You will have to OC the FSB to 225 for the Ram to run at 400 even, if not it will run at 377mhz.

Also drop your HTT down to x4 ( 800 ) and it will allow for a higher oc.

EDIT: also if you are worried about your PSU you need to replace it. Never EVER skimp out on a quailty unit. A cheap PSU can ko your system, and you will end having to buy all your componets again anyway.

GOOD PSU FTW.

So i need to lower the timing? I'm not worried about the quility of the PSU, just the amount of Watts
Yea i have read it a few times, and i think i found most of the settings in my bios... I'll be back as soon as i run into problems

I have changed the timing and the Reference Clock and decreased the HT to 4x, testing 1h+ and its stable...but what about the TRC timing i left it in auto mode and it is showing 25? If i increase my Reference Clock to ~240 as a result getting 3ghz willl there be problems with the divider or ram timing ? I know that the HT wont cross the 1000 border on 4x...
P.S. the load temp increased from 37 to 42 , dont think its a huge problem...

Leave it at 25 it will be fine.

Thats also why i wanted you to use the HTT of x4 so that you would not run into problems. I see no reason why you can't hit 3ghz.

You might need to feed your ram a few more volts to hit around 240 FSB ( should put you at around 414-420 mhz on your ram ) if it become unstable, drop the ram divider to 667 and you should hit around 365-375 on your ram. At that point you can tighten the timing up once again.

Give and take, thats what OC'ing is all about. It takes a good month or so, to get a perfect oc, performace and stable wise.

Tried 230= worked fine, only tested for 10min
Tried 235= got BSOD
I think ill stick with the stable one , 224-225 is enough for me (can't decide, when i choose 225 it shows like 224 in cpuz, but when i choose 224 it shows 2779Mhz in bios)
Still want to find out the best full configs for my ram...
Edit: Found out an interesting formula CL+ TRAS = TRC , can anyone confirm/deny this? because if i use this formula and my new settings , i'll have to change my TRC to 20 instead of 25, and im still not sure about the Tras being set to 15
