Looking to OC Q9550. Which Asus P5Q to pick? - Page 2

Sounds like I should indeed look into UD3P. They quoted me $133 for Asus P5Q here (Hong Kong).

Note* the UD3 series has the highest DDR2 ram OC at 1658...

Here is Robilar's thread with links to XS:

I wanted to get to cold benching this weekend, but have the flu, so that might need to wait til next week unless I can at least muster enough energy to drop the single stage on it. Picking up DI or LN2 tomorrow isn't likely at this point, but I'll post results when I get them.

Here is a quad core at 500 FSB

Closest stable was 490x9 with the MIIF. I've only had 1 BSOD with this board and it only took an hour for the beginnings of an oustanding OC session.
This is what i call FUN! I've booted into windows at 533X8 only to get my 1 and only BSOD after 10-15 seconds.
That was with no extra voltage over what i'm running now. I'll be checking for max FSB Next.

Thanks to napalm for some bios settings.

Speaking of RAM, since nobody remarked, seems like Corsair 1066 should be Ok, right?

As far as custom air cooler, at 3.4Ghz, what RPMs should I be looking at? Or it's generally more tricky and other factors could be at play? Also, do I absolutely need additional cooler for the case itself (I'm not sure what comes with Elite 335 by default)?

BTW, thanks again for all the replies! Pretty amazing -- rapid-fire awesome crystallized wisdom literally within seconds of my original post! Thanks!

3.4? Forget that. Get the GA-EP45-UD3P, a TRUE, and get 4.0.

I have a CPU cooler linked in my post above. It would be a good idea to get another 120mm fan for the front of the case to cool the HDDs, but that will only cost like $5 if that.

It will last just as long at 4.0GHz with 1.3625v vcore as it will at 3.0GHz with 1.25v vcore.

At 4GHZ it would last that long and longer as long as you kept the temps and voltage reasonable.
