Your sense...it makes none.

Explain to me oh mighty guru, how 6=12. Because you are discounting cores? Please. I am talking from personal experience of speed in my setup.

I loved the E8400, and it was quick, but the QX9650 bests it in both speed and multitasking.

If the OP is not doing video encoding then SSE4.1 is useless to him, most games in the next year will be using all 4 quads, GTA4 is just the beginning
see, that is your misunderstanding right there. Old (orginal G0 stepped) q6600's OC'd to 3.6ghz easily, however current ones all ship with rediculously high VIDs such as 1.3125V. A good overclock on these newer, worse q6600s is about 3.2ghz-3.4ghz depending on your set-up.

so yeah, quads are nice, but a q6600 is not the route to go.

ok then Mr. Sarcasm.

Yorkfield is not a native quadcore, therefore it's two dual cores lumped together linked by the FSB. Each set of cores shares 6mb. In other words, each die is limited to its own 6mb shared cache and cannot access any of the cache from the other die.

It's nowhere near the same as having 12mb of shared cache.

It doesn't matter as much because the cache topology is exposed to the operating system and the OS can take it into account when making scheduling decisions.

basicley i will go with the quad and not the dual for example lets say 2 men have to carry stones weighing 100kilos each is going to take 50 while the quad (4 men) each is going to take 25 so the quad is going to be faster and it wont be stressed as the dual get it?

Any Q6600 bought of newegg will do 3.6ghz, it might take 1.55v but they will do it, if you are worried about recent batches just buy a guaranteed OC'er here on OCN. You can find one that is proven to OC well and it should be cheaper than a new Q6600
