What IS wrong is coming up with a new name, like the 9800gt, and sneaking 8800gt's in there.

What they're doing here is what they should have done all along, revisions are a good thing.
EXACTLY what I was going to say. It's exactly the same.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you, not nearly the same thing one is just a revision to an existing core... not a physical change in core size, cpu's get revivsions 2-3 in their life cycle.
your analogy is off base.
it would be if intel switched to 45nm and didnt tell anyone...

I think this misleading to the consumer, just cuz they have a bunch of stock, of an expensive product doesnt mean we should pay and pray for the best.

I only noted it because Fuad DID actually produce an external source to verify on...... I think since I've kept track it's been twice. But I do think it's amazing how many here will read the article and not notice there's no verifiable source attached, and believe it anyway just because Fud's other people do a good job.

difference is his motherboard exist. your version of windows doesn't

btw quite interesting that you changed your specs after people called BS on you. that just says your rig was a fake.

doesn't help that you changed your rig to all UBER high end stuff doesn't help after all this BS was called on you either as now it screams look at me look at me I have cool stuff so I must be cool look at me.
plus it still screams fake

using your own analogy your about to buy a CPU and expect to get one of them brand new fancy 65nm cpu's and have the 250 handy to buy it.
so you bring it home take a look at it and notice it wasn't that unannounced secretly rolled out 45nm that they are replacing the 65nm CPU with and so you scream foul.

does that make sense to anyone?

for that matter as far as the pray and pay situation that you speak of. instead of updating their product line and keeping it in the same model and same price range like they are doing now they could always give it new model number and charge you an extra $100 bucks. which would you prefer? paying the same price for the same product that you have always been able to get and possibly get a free upgrade to boot or just be charged extra for something like this?

and how is it misleading the customer?

Someone needs to compile a list of serial numbers im sure theres some type of marking on the box that tells you its a 55nm

I agree. The Intel chips, you can tell which steppage they are by their batch number or so

Selling two cards at the same price under the same name with different specifications should be illegal.

However, the Specifications AREN'T different.
the new 55nm GTX 260 core 216 is exactly the same as the older one with one MINOR change, a die shrink, which is a manufacturing improvement.

There is NO foul here people, just because NVidia improved the process by which the chip is manufactured, but the spec's remain the same, doesn't mean the HAVE to change anything.
