Vonage anyone? Effects on current network setup?

Does anyone use Vonage and can they tell me how it is? Also how did it affect your home network once you got it? The more info you can get me the better. I'm currently paying over $100 a month for my phone bill with taxes and fees.

Wow not one Vonage user?

It's cheaper, but it's VoIP, and that means no BitTorrent while you're on the phone!

You're speaking from experience with it?

Meh, if you have a decent router you can set up the QoS so that vonage has priority. I have vonage and have my QoS setup and have no problems with my phone quality while torrenting. The most pain in the ass thing is having to get a long enough phone cord so that I can move my base unit for my cordless phones far enough away from my router so I dont get interference from my wireless router.

You have the router that came with the Vonage adapter or you used your existing router?

Yes.

If you have set up QoS then yo'll usually be OK, especially if you're downloading pirated torrents. If you only download legitimate stuff (which usually runs much faster with more peers), or you have a bunch of people using the Internet connection, then you could have some audio problems even with QoS. So it's a good idea to throttle back BitTorrent anyway.

Oh, and get a 5.8GHz cordless phone.

Do you still use Vonage currently or have you switched?

I have a tiny little vonage box made by linksys, it has a 2 phone ports and 1 ethernet port.

I plug that into my home router. And in my house it is only 2 desktop PCs and sometimes a laptop on my network. I am the only one that deals with torrents (not very often mind you) and I have torrents setup through QoS.

Oh and right now i'm too cheap to buy a 5.8ghz cordless phone I would much rather spend my extra money on christmas gifts and computer parts Home phones arent even on the radar right now

I have vonage and my internet connection is 750 down/ 300 up and have no issues with it. I don't torrent though so I can't say anything about that, but have never had an issue even when downloading large files.
