Buying AMD CPUs

Is right now a good time to start buying AMD X2 Processors? I was thinking of upgrading a few computers around the house (3) but I'm on a tight Christmas budget and it can wait. GO or NO?

What socket, and what boards?? They're about to do the Phenom 2 this next quarter, so I could imagine a price drop for older procs.

Ok, SO you have some AM2 Processors you want to upgrade?? I guess it would depend on what you're running now.

If you have a 3500+ am2, definately not a bad time to upgrade. They're not going to be doing much more with AM2; Although am2 + boards should take the new AM3's; although it may be the same case with the AM2's. Some did not take AM2 plus.

But if you have a 6000+, I wouldn't go for a 6200+ or 6400+.

If you game, I wouldn't go crazy with the quads on this platform. They're ok; but for gaming not much bang for buck.

Could give a more definative answer with more info on what you're trying to upgrade.

Is your current CPU an X2 (dual-core)? If so now it's definitely a great time to upgrade, something like the 5200+ to 6000+ Brisbane would blow it away; even if your current CPU is a dual-core it would, but coming from a single-core it's definitely worth it, depending on wha you use your computer for a dual-core should do a little longer.

And now that we're at it... what DO you do with your computer? Game? Not with those graphics...

I'm going to game with my computer and the others will be for just general computing. I have a friend thats going to get the boards for me so I'm not worried about those.

Current is a single core. I have a bit more time at home so I can game a bit more which means I need to step it up. Yea 6200TC wont do anything for me. But this 9800 GT 1GB with Core Duo @2.6 does great for me at work.

Seeing that the AMDs are only like $60-$70, I think I'll stay at that range till sometime in the new year when I finish paying bills.

This would be a good buy it's 76.00 (X2 6000 @3.1ghz). Or this (X2 5400 Black Edition) @2.8ghz for 66.00 if you plan on overclocking. The black editions don't come with an hsf.
