[profy]RIAA Seeking $1 Million in Damages from a Student for Sharing 7 Songs on Kazaa - Page 2

I think Joel should go buy a few guns and "snap" inside an RIAA office so that they "become an example" of the trouble you can get into for excessive lawsuits.

You should really go on TPB and look at how many people leech music.

They should really be suing for *Number of Downloads*x$0.99
They have no proof he uploaded each of the 7 more than the one time that they downloaded them from him. Therefore, 7 songs, 20 bucks max damage and that's being over generous.

Nah. Guns won't do it right.

What he needs to do is catch them pirating using dirty, underhanded tactics(Planting a pirated OS disk in the IT department and getting them to use it will do the trick. They don't play by the rules, why should he?), then let Microsoft sue them into oblivion.

One million dollars seems a little grandiose. Associations like the RIAA really need a practical fine. I mean, if you want to share music, it's your decision. There should be regulations against anti-piracy campaigns, and it should start with sensible men and women thinking on the level of the average Joe. Many of the average people out there both can and can not afford paying high prices for music. Before you point out my contradiction, ask yourself this: Ever recorded a song on the radio? For those of you who said no, more power to you. Those that have, venerate the fact that it's not you.

I love how its exactly 1 000 000$

Rather lucky that the lost money comes to exactly that. One would almost think they made up the number.

You're right, all possible exits from the building need to be sealed off, and the whole thing needs to be torched. A few cocktails should do the trick.

i was under the impression that the law essential says you can sue for $100,000 per album... what does the RIAA think they are doing?
