Well, that means they should be tracking those 1 million people down who also stole, instead of charging him with their crime(s) too. Again, it should be handled on an individual basis, instead of trying to solve all their problems in one hearing with one guy. He had 7 mp3s on his computer, he should only pay $7.00, period. They're turning him into a scapegoat by charging him $1,000,000. He didn't force 1,000,000 people to download his 7 mp3s, either. He might have simply installed Kazaa, and just didn't go into 'Options' to unshare his folder.

know whats funny? 80gb ipod, zune, and other large mp3/mp4 players...

why isnt apple being sued too? Surely the mpaa/riaa knows that 99 percent of their devices are using pirated songs/videos, and that the average person can not afford 80gb worth of mp3s! That equals close to about 18,000 songs. If each song cost 20 cents, thats $900 of music to be toting around with you. Then you drop it on the ground, and UH OH songs gone. Watch apple and microsoft and creative and all the other mp3 heavy hitters start cying bloody murder when mp3 piracy is completely eliminated.

If I had an 80gb mp3 player, I would load it up just for the sake of it... since I dont, I dont illegally download mp3s. SUE APPLE FOR 5$12, 513, 135, 896, 283, 582, 584, 915.24 for promoting piracy.

Now whats the difference between this and shoplifting, other than the form of media?

Why not inforce the same punishment as a shoplifter? ( I don't know exectly what that is but I don't think it comes to 1 mil$)

They go after these kinds of people because they cannot touch the groups like RELOADED or Razer1911, its nothing but a scare tactic and they will lose. One woman who had downloaded over $100,000 worth of songs and movies got off because she said her wireless connection was unsecured so they couldn't prove she was the one downloading them, just her account

EDIT> even when they tried to get Razer1911 they sent him to prison for a few years and on the day of his release Razer1911 started releasing new files

Absolutely NOTHING. That's why the RIAA THEMSELVES should be charged and taken to court for turning people like this kid into their scapegoat.

1 million $ for 7 songs? are they insane? If it wasn't to sad for words i would actually find this lol worthy.
My advise to the RIAA, Go and hunt down some professional pirates who gain large profits by pirating music and video's, Not some poor guy with 7 songs in his library.

A little off topic but...

How does the RIAA even zero in and sue someone like this. I think everyone I know has WAY more than 7 songs Downloaded, or even uploaded for that matter. Why this poor guy?

It is not like it would be hard to find people with way more. A court case over 7 songs is much weaker than a court case over 800 songs.

The RIAA must be retarded.
