DDR2 Intel Socket 775 Mobo//CPU to keep me happy for a while - Page 2

Everything is pointing towards more and more cores being used. I think the OS is another hurdle that has been hampering development for quad cores. For example, under Linux the folding@home client can use a core called the "a2" . This core is optimized for quad cores and it has been in action for about 3-4 months now. On the other hand Windows is still without this core and its because the OS isn't as friendly to quads as Linux is.

However, that being said everything is moving to more and more cores and developers have no other choice but to start coding more multi threaded apps. Its all in the timing I suppose. I know that Adobe CS4 is going to be relying on the GPU when it comes out. So a high clock on a CPU with the multiprocessing power of a cuda enabled card can't be so bad right?

edit: In short if you really encode video a lot I would get the quad. However, if you only play games, surf the web, listen to music, and such I would get the Dual.

Thanks alot for your consideration, I feel like Id lean toward the quad just in case i end up with this computer for longer than I would like. That being said is there a suggestion on the best for the money at this point that utilizes 1333mhz FSB my top choices would rank Q9550,Q9450,Q9400 but I am only really looking to get 3.2-3.5ghz out of them I figured that could do well for just about anything at this point. So that also points toward a motherboard that doesnt need to be super centered around overclocking.

Thanks Again for your Consideration,
Obs

If you have the money for the q9550 then go for it. Either way you can't go wrong. All these processors are fast.

edit: That's one more thing to consider. If you plan on having this build for a while a quad core will definitely expand its longevity. That's the main reason I got my quad. I really wanted my investment to be worthwhile and last me a long time.
