Radiator on Top Questions

Thread Starter
I've always hung my radiator off the back so I have a couple of questions.

Those who have the radiator resting on a bracket on top, do you cover up the top vents (if you have them) as to not get hot air rising directly into your radiator?

Also, if you can fit the radiator inside or resting on the top, which way do you run the fans? Do you run them so the air flows down into the case so you're drawing cooler air, or just let the warm case air flow up and out through the radiator?

Most people don't use any vents/separators between the rad and the motherboard that I know of. If the rad is on top typically hot air drawn out off the case (negative air pressure). You could also set it up as cool air enters the case (positive air pressure). Its up to you really.

I read a review that stated that pulling air through the radiator was better temps with low RPM fans, and pushing was better for high RPM. I haven't bothered to experiment with mine, so I can't really be sure...

I have one on top and decided to pull air into the case from the top, I know heat rises and it's better to have exhaust fans on top but I wanted nice cool air going through the rad not hot exhaust air from the comp. Just make sure you have plenty of exhaust fans on the back. I even switched my front case fans to exhaust to try and even out the 3 120 intake from the rad.

I run my radiator inside with fans in push-pull. They draw air from inside the case, but as it's only 1C higher than ambient, I'm not too worried.
