even though the gtx 200s lose on the average/max fps to the ati counterparts, they generally have higher minimum fps. i think that matters more.

i would choose gtx 260 over the 4870 1 gig

but of course its so much easier to go with the p45 and xfire in the future...

Will a 4870x2 even fit in an antec 900? Honestly I think a 4870 1gb will do fine even when I get my 24" lcd. I plan on playin css, l4d, wow, crysis, bioshock. Only thing I wont be able to max will be crysis and that is fine. I cant justify getting the 4870x2. Id rather settle for the 4870 1gb and upgrade my case to the 1200, so then I can always go xfire 4870 1gb and pwn nubs on ice. I would never get 2 4870x2's so ill just stick with the 4870 1gb.

WD makes exellent HDDs you said you wanted the 640 gb model, im not sure if that comes in the raptor model, ive only seen around 80 gb (i think) but the WD raptor HDDs are very fast and quit, awsome HDDs. video card is hard for me to reccomend it kinda depends on how much you wanna spend on the GPU alone and what you want to do with it. do research! i am running the nvidia 7800 gtx wich is pretty old but i can run crysis at medium settings so its not to bad. so thats about all my recomendations, oh yea look into the cooler master 690 case!
Firstly, the Antec 1200 is the best case I've ever used. Compared to the 900, the 300, and the CM 690 (and my old Antec Lanboy), it's stunning. It's also the largest one I've ever used. Airflow is great (and the external fan controls are probably one of the better features, and a great improvement over the 900), cable management is easy (there could be 1-2mm more behind the motherboard tray, but that's not a big con), and it's great looking. Overall, I love it. It's far, far better than the Antec 900, or the crappy CM690 (I didn't like that one. The HDD holders were extremely flimsy, had to almost break the front panel to remove it to add the DVD drive, and it has limited airflow due to it's lack of fans). In addition, the 1200's construction is the sturdiest I've ever seen in a case. The ONLY part that isn't perfect are the side doors, which don't quite fit properly. I also don't have any fear of it falling (it's currently sitting on two nightstands 1ft below the level of my desk).

RAM speed makes no difference in how "fast" a computer feels, unless it's between 133DDR vs 1600DDR3. The reason his computer feels faster is because it's probably a newer Windows install.

One of the stupider sentences I've seen this month. How would that come in a 10k RPM (Raptor) model? It's not possible. Also, there are 36GB, 74GB, 150GB, 150GB Veloci, and 300GB Veloci Raptor drives. AND, by no means are these harddrives quiet.

For my recommendations, simply look at my sigrig, and apply a 1GB 4870 to it instead of a 4850. This cost me $1050 5 months ago, so it should easily fall within your budget of $1000 now.

I don't think so. A 1GB 4870 is certainly powerful enough for 1920x1200 (the only REAL reason to get a 4870x2 is when you A) have money to waste, or B) you're a die-hard computer freak who always wants the latest & greatest). My 4850 comes pretty damn close to maxing crysis @ 1680x1050 (hooked up a 226BW and got ~25fps maxed, no AA).

Damn +rep for you low strife. great answers. Also yeah, I dont trust the first post at all. I am debating on the 4870 or the 4850. I honestly may only get a 22" and probably would not need the 4870, but then again it would be a little more future proof. I am still waiting for the money(long story) but I have time to decide then. I may get a 150gb Veloci and get a 1tb for storage.

My 4850 is pretty good. I'm having a few issues (can't overclock, cause I get a VPU error semi-often), but otherwise it's rock solid. A massive increase over my old ATI x550, going from minimum settings to all maxed. The only game I can't max 8x\\16x AA\\AF is Crysis. I can play that on VH with no AA, or the original on High (DX10 mod for DX9, since I'm on XP).
