I recently saw a post in the Rhino3d newsgroup and thought I would post this quote. I See that he has a 3.16ghz quad core Xeon compared to an i7 but im not sure what i7. Just thought I would post this. BTW english is not his native language so no bashing.

Here is a quick demo that show the power off this stuff : ( see the picture
they speak by themself

This application just compute a regular grid of points ( a pointcloud )
over a terrain , ( it use an heavy mesh intersect function ) in this case
whe generate 5.3 milions of points in 48. 11 secondes with one thread ,
and the same in 9.87 sec with 4 threads !!
( more than 4 times faster ) , with the core i7 the same operation will
done in less than 2 seconds !!!
versus 48 sec with one core !!!!


Whe think the future , for really fast application is the parallel
programming , sometime it not trivial and push
to really think hard to have high quality programming .
Mitch if you can test the viewshed of rhinoterrain , on a quad core , or 8
cores you will see a huge boost ...
