i7 920 overclock on air cooling

Thread Starter
OK, so I've decided to go for the i7 setup, as per the updated sig rig. Triple channel to come in the new year. I used to have Q9550 with Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, but unfortunately the bracket does not fit the i7. So I'm after a bracket for the i7 for sale in UK. Also, has anyone done much OC on this setup? BIOS settings are very diferent to mmy previous machine, so a bit confused.

I have the Asus P6T Deluxe board, and am unsure whether to use the Windows based Turbo V to OC, or if I should really set everything in BIOS? I'd imagine Asus would not release something that would be unsafe, but being quite old fashioned, I also think BIOS setting may still be the best way...

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I don't have a i920 but I can tell you that the bios is always the best way to OC.

I also know many people are able to hit 4ghz on the stock cooler...

you can do it...but the temps gets way high when you are doing the stability testing.

Gooddog and ErBall - you both use Thermal Right for cooling? Where do you get the bracket to fit i7, or did you get a new TRUE especially for i7?

Some of the chips run hotter than others, but yeah...clocking on stock cooling will never give you amazing temperatures

My 920 is at 3.8Ghz I haven't had the time to tweak it to 4Ghz. I bought the 1366 True from quietpc they were the cheapest I could find it at the time and the only one who had it in stock.

The stock cooling was trash you won't be getting good temps with that when you overclock.
