Trust me, I was the same way, didn't play it at first, but now that I've learned to play, its amazing.

Also, I love the huge games. As I mentioned earlier, you can save games and continue later. I have an 8 player game (me and 8 bots) on the biggest map possible, that I've been playing for a few months now. Every day I load it up and play a little.

If you have Sins of a Solar Empire, but don't have the 1.5 version for whatever reason (hint hint ) and you can't stand the pirates attacking you every 15 minutes. Here is how to get rid of them or change the attack time:

Go to this file in your Sins directory:
C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Stardock Games\\Sins of a Solar Empire\\GameInfo\\Gameplay.constants

Note: Mine is Vista 64bit, so your's probably just says 'Program Files' instead of 'Program Files (x86)', but either way find the file: "Gameplay.constants" and open it with notepad. It doesn't have an extension like *.txt or anything.

Scroll down to "pirateRaidDef" (without quotes) and find the line:
firstWarningTime 900

The 900 is in seconds when the attacks start. So changing this number will change the pirate attack times for Sins.
900 = 15 minutes

I personaly just added two zeros to make it "90000"(without quotes) , this will make my time before the first attack 1500 minutes or 25hrs and I don't think my games will last that long. So no more pirates for me other then dealing with their bases, but they are generally best left alone anyway considering they don't even have any logistical slots and you can't even build close to the 30 turrents that you had to take down to get the place.

One other note:
On the pirate screen in the game if you change the time to above an hour it will start at 60 minutes and count down and repeat, until your time is reached, so if you set it for 100 minutes (6000 in the file). It will count to zero from 60 minutes and repeat another 40 minute countdown and then the pirates will come, but as I said I don't like the pirates and I say mod them outta there....

I bought this game, and found it fun while I played it. I got lost a lot though (and owned a lot). These guys deserve it though. They put out a game that scales well, looks pretty decent, and with no DRM. They represented what PC gaming is, and I hope they keep it up (and see increased sales because of this!). Must be a big honor for them to win this over the other hugely hyped games.

Does anybody even care what IGN thinks? We all know that they only say what they are PAID TO SAY (as evidenced by the fiasco earlier this year). GTA IV is the one (and only) true GOTY.

I have played both, IV was a crappily done port (I was able to play it, unlike most, and I did get reasonably far through the story) And Sins is a original game that has kept me playing since the first demo was released.

Saying IV is better is like saying that Star Wars Ep 1 is better than Star Wars Ep 6, one is original and great, the other only works if you have a certain frame of mind/computer and even then has already been done.

I didn't say it: Spike and G4 did.

Yes, because Stardock is DEFINITELY a bigger company than Rockstar with more money that can afford to throw around money like that.

Yeah, your talking about GOTY in general.

Sins of a Solar Empire is IGN's PC GOTY.
GTA IV for PC is a crappy port that barely runs, and the fact that it was even nominated for IGN's PC GOTY sickens me.

Instead of wasting your time doing this, just disable pirate attacks. They will still have a base and harrass any ships going through but they wont leave that area.

I really dont see the point in setting it to every 25 hours when you know the game will not last that long, its just silly.

This would also be my pick for pc exclusive of the year. I just sank about 4 hours into a skirmish last night. You can always save and pick it up later, but it's tough to put it down. I just can't stop managing my empire. eventually I just say ok I need to stop and send all my guys to attack.
