GPU Fahmon problem

Thread Starter
I had no trouble browsing to find the SMP client to monitor with Fah mon. Though when I have been trying too for the GPU client I can't seem to find the right folder.

I installed it here like this: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Folding@home\\Folding@home-gpu\\

I have that set as what fahmon should look at for finding ppd.

btw i'm using the Windows XP/2003/Vista GPU System tray client with special viewer for NVIDIA GPU's (installer msi)

thoughts?

Im new to this folding thing but just setup 3 clients last night on F@Hmon.

Have your F@Hmon window open

Goto your client icon @ bottom right of windows. Right click, Goto status, Goto Log.

Now your log should pop up. Somewhere near the top is the path for your work log. On Vista 64 its something like C:\\users\\appdata\\folding@home-gpu\\

Open this path up in windows explorer and the drag the folder from explorer to the F@Hmon window.

Hope this helps

Or right click the link in start menu and go to properties.
the line "run at" tells where the .log and work files are stored ;o)

Did you add the -smp flag to the shortcut when setting up SMP?

try giving this a shot for your SMP problems.

shut down your client. and delete these files/folders:

work
fahcore_axx (or whatever core you have)
FAHlog
MyFolding
queue.dat
unitinfo

after deleting these.. in your shortcut, make sure you have the flag -smp and also add -configure

then start up from the shortcut and go through the configuration process again just to make sure.

this way you are sure you aren't downloading the wrong core and such.

If you look at the folder containing the FAH program you'll see several things. A Queue, FAH log, a work folder, Instal.bat file, etc... The one thing you look for the the FAH_XX client. It will read FAH_79, or FAH_80, or FAH_81, FAH_82, or FAH_7c... These are not true SMP clients but will be loaded from Stanford servers as such. The "true" FAH client will look like FAH_a0, or FAH_a1... Those are SMP clients and will be worth 1300+ points and take 50 - 100% of your cores on the Quad.

As for the clients. There is nothing really you can do at this point. Just leave it, and over the next several clients an SMP client will download. This is one problem of Windows SMP folding. The Stanford servers get loaded with "other" types of clients.

As for the deino flag for folding. You use that ONLY if you downloaded that program. There are two SMP high performance FAH programs to download. I personally do not use the deino version. I found it more difficult to set up... Here's how you can set up an SMP client from scratch....

User Name: [] Your folding name
Team Number: [] 37726
Passkey: [] You get this from Stanford via E-mail, after you request it! You don't have to have this according to some.
Use proxy: [No]
Acceptable size of work assignments and work result packets: [normal/big] normal is default
Change advanced options: [Yes]
Launch manually service question: [No]
Core priority: [idle]
CPU usage requested: 100
Disable highly optimized assembly code: [no]
Pause if battery power is being used: [no]
Interval, in minutes, between checkpoints: [15] I use 5 minutes.
Memory: [push Enter to use the default; you don't have to adjust this]
Set -advmethods flag always, requesting new advanced scientific...: [Yes]
Ignore any deadline information: no
Machine ID: [1; unless you're running more than one client on the computer]
The following options require you to restart the client before they take effect...
Disable CPU affinity lock: [no] enter
Additional parameters: [] -SMP
IP address to bind core to: [push Enter]

If memory serves me, I think that is how the set up goes...

I use 5 minute intervals so that, if you shutdown or re-start the FAH program, the checkpoint will be closer to where it left off. Also SMP client have deadlines. Most of them are 4 days. If you shutdown the client for more than 3 days, you might not get the client to finish in time.

If you do have problems, just delete the Queue. Once FAH re-starts it will generate a new queue and start fresh. You can also delete the FAH_XX and upon restarting it will download a new client...

I hope this all helped, :-)
when you are done. go back into your shortcut and remove -configure
