What are you supposed to do when your overclock looks stable but isn't?

I ran prime95x64 blend test error free for 13 hours befor it failed.
What settings would you be checking if it was you?

13 hours isn't bad but it gets on my nerves just thinking it's not tottally stable.

Bump the voltage. You're kind of pushing it for a 45nm chip, though. I would just scale back to 4 GHz, and keep your voltage. You get the 4 GHz bragging rights, and can probably be more stable, too. But if you're dead set on 4.1 GHz, your only real option is to bump the voltage up.

this is very true, you wont notice the difference between 4 and 4.1GHZ. Hopefully at 4.05 you should be able to take your volts down quite a bit too

In a situation like that I would set up another test with a program like EVEREST Ultimate configured to do perpetual report logging on all your voltages and temperatures to see if something "jumps out" at you. Is there a huge ripple in the vcore or dimm voltages just before you fail, what about on your 12v line, etc.

Also, don't discount something like an a/v or anti-spyware program fubaring things up...

I'll gamble with this chip and pump voltage i guess.

Vista rates my cpu 5.8 at 4009 mhz but maximum 5.9 at 4160 mhz ;-)

even at 1.4v if temps are fine the chip will last for years....

Except people have told otherwise. Even under LN2 some people who have put their voltage to 1.4V or higher have had chips die within a few months. You may be one of the lucky few (I know a few guys here have had chips that didn't degrade) but mine did, and I took the advice of someone else who didn't have any problems.

My old 3700 would fail just after 6 hours. I didn't change anything and it worked fine for me without any issues.

Yours degraded....? At what voltage? Are you 100% positive it degraded?

I've been through 17 wolfdales (also 8 or so Yorkfields) and use all sorts of voltages, never once had a degraded chip. Its just on this forum that there seems to be some sort of 45nm voltage paranoia...and I'm about to give up talking about it as it doesn't seem to go anywhere.

And who uses LN2 for 1.4V..what would be the point of that? lol ... If they were using LN2 I'm sure they were using insane voltages....


also, you guys realize there's a guy on XS who has been running several rigs for several months.... 24/7 folding with wolfdales under insane voltages like 1.6-1.7vcore and 2.0 VTT.......guess what, no signs of degrading so far....not that I would recommend those voltages lol. My limit is 1.45, above 1.42-1.43 usually gives diminishing returns anyway
